Co codamol is usually good. Did you get anti virals. Have the scabs dried.

Hi I don't know if this is going to be of any help to you but I wondered if what works for herpes simplex might also work for shingles, which is caused another herpes virus... the chicken pox one.

I used to get really bad cold sores but now take lysine in powder form daily. Lysine is an amino acid which seems to keep it under control. Another amino acid called arginine actually promotes it. Both of these are found in food .you can find out from the 'net which foods are high in one or the other.

I changed my diet to a more alkaline one, knocking out processed foods and high carbs, like biscuits, cakes, pastries, bread and add slices of lemon to hot water as a drink. I also limit the type of nuts and the amount I eat as they can be high in arginine.

I believe they say stress can bring on shingles and herpes simplex attacks, so maybe you've got run down and need to boost your immunity. If so, taking some vitamins and adding more herbs which are immunity boosters might help.

There's also some special creams which contain lemon balm, think it's herbal name is Melissa. Lemon balm does help to soothe cold sores a bit... maybe worth a try.

Hope this is off some help to you... and you get yourself fit and well very soon.

Have you talked to your GP about the breathlessness? Have you ever suffered from asthma? It is always a good idea to run new symptoms past your GP or a practice nurse.

Hi Milliganrosie, you need to get to your GP asap and discuss taking Antivirals and also your breathlessness. I caught shingles 9yrs ago and have been suffering with chronic pain ever since (PHN) - this happened for various reasons, one of them being the delay in taking anti-virals. I do wish you well xxx

I had it last year, it’s awful so my sympathies.

Do see your doctor I was given a high dose antibiotics/antiviral and as I recall started feeling much better after 24hrs

Hey there,

Have you been to your GP? Breathlessness can be a sign of an allergic reaction to paracetamol (rare), or a rare (and dangerous) side effect of ibuprofen. It may not be related at all (anemia can cause breathlessness when you exert yourself - like climbing stairs).

Also, yes, get antivirals. They really help. I had shingles a few months ago.
