Am I depressed or just fed up......?

With chronic pain, how do you know if you’re depressed or just plainly fed up? The question I asked myself this week in my New Blog Post. Thought some of you might emphasise with it all......😘

Had a look at Blog post. It is impossible to tell. Change in medication means withdrawal from previous medication. Look up Antonio Damasio The Feeling of What Happens: Body and Emotion in the Making of Consciousness. Can get a copy from Amazon.

Depression is a body state when can be changed by moving in a non depressed way. Antonio Damasio is a neuro scientist and hence carries weight that I do not. What Antonio Damasi is what I have discovered from my own research and I agree with a lot of what he says.

Because of the effects of withdrawal and adapting to new medication it is not possible to suggest any remedies. Think back to the happy movements you made as a child. Try and think of doing the movements and notice the effects. The movements can be quite small. Experiment and modify.

Hope this proves useful.

Read your blog... not surprised you are feeling the way you do. Apart from the pain... having your home upside can get you down.... especially when it drags on and on and on! Having constant pain and not being able to do what you'd like to do, drags you you too, but doing nothing just seems to make it worse. Are you depressed.. possibly. It comes in many forms.

It sounds very much you could do with a change of some sort, whether that's getting out of the house, going somewhere to do some kind of exercise which is designed for whatever your particular situation is. You say you are newly disabled, but not about the extent of it., Is there somewhere locally that has disabled swimming or hydrotherapy, . If there is such a thing, then give it shot.

But the biggest change you can make comes from within. You said yourself, that some of the situation... like the kitchen and being cold etc.. is only temporary. Perhaps something like learning to meditate would help you... come to terms with your situation. I'm sure the MHT have mentioned mindfulness... that's a worthwhile technique, which they should be able to help you with.

Hopefully the long awaited spring will turn up and lift your spirits... you can find that in the simplest of things... like listening to birdsong, seeing new shoots on plants.. even the simplest of things.

I've done the lolling in bed, can't be bothered with anything... so usually give myself a very good talking to ( mainly because there's no one else to!) allow myself a few minutes more to wallow in my own self pity and haul my backside out of bed. Do a few jobs if I can, then I feel I've actually done something.

Something else you might want to look at is what you are eating... believe or not it does make a difference. Although processed foods etc might be a stop gap at the moment... try to make sure you get a good balance of veg and fruits too... to ensure you're getting all the vitamins and mineral you need. Small packs of microwaveable veg are available, if you can't prepare them.

I hope I've given you some ideas. Then you can try to get back into some kind of routine.

I know it all sounds so easy, but you need to try break that vicious circle.. even if it's just one step at a time. Keep a diary so you can look back and see how far you've come.... there will be down days and days when things look brighter..... liken it to climbing flights of stairs.... sit on the landing now and again when you need to.

Write down what you'd like to achieve the next day... but be realistic..don't make it too hard otherwise you'll give up. Every day should have a goal..

Most of all, have faith in yourself.

Take care
