I’ve got to have a rant about this

I’m sure everyone of you has had to deal with this.

Why oh why do Doctors receptionists think they are doctors or just point blank lie to you thinking your either stupid or don’t know the truth just ahhhhhhhh

It’s taken two days just to get tablets sorted just so unnecessary

Sorry rant over lol

Dare I ask? How was receptionist involved and why 2 days?

x

in reply to Bananas5

Apparently at my doctors the receptionists do the prescriptions and deal with everything not the doctors. The letter from my pain doctor saying I need to go on new medication was sent 2 days ago. At first they didn’t have it (they did I was sent proff lol) , then they called me saying they had given it to a doctor not even my doctor because they didn’t understand it and neither did the doctor ( they never gave it to the doctor nor put it on my system) then they told me they wouldn’t do it because it was faxed and not posted, then it was they wouldn’t because they didn’t think I needed it ( haha yes because a receptionist knows about my condition and can determine that)

when I kicked off I finally got to speck to a doctor they had no idea about any of this and sorted it all out straight away and said normally the receptionists all do the prescriptions they do referrals they do everything the doctors just sign whatever is put in front of them.

If I hadn’t kicked off I still wouldn’t have my new tablets or my oramorph, I managed to get it delievered to me as my pharmacy know how awful my doctors are and that I’ve been waitin days for it lol.

Sorry bit of a long reply and there is a bit more to the story but to log to write lol

It’s all a bit more personal I don’t want to write on here, but thank you listening :) x

That's OK.

You got everything sorted now?

It is always the pain clinic who tells your GP what meds he wants you to have and GP signs script. Receptionist should take note of that

x

in reply to Bananas5

Yeah everything is sorted now I spoke to the manager and she put them in their place. They seem to think what my pain doctor says my gp doesn’t actually have to listen to him, even though my gp has been waiting for this to actually prescribe me anything other than the original stuff I was on

Luckily the manger and I have a good relationship as I’ve had to complain to her a few times and she knows my situation well lol x

A receptionist saying you don't need X medication ? What an absolute joke ! What may have happened is that another GP looked at it rather than the one you spoke too ? It takes too long for GP's to ring patients so the receptionist passes on the message. Good you've got it sorted.

in reply to keepliving

No she hadnt showed it to any doctor , until I actually spoke to the doctor who sorted it out for me. I only talk to doctors over the phone as I can’t actually get therit and they know that it’s written on my notes as well. They just couldn’t be bothered to do their job properly and get a power trip out of pretending to be a doctor they do it all the time.

Yeah I just don’t put up with crap when it comes to pain killers and my pain and them lol

What i'm saying is they might have just given it to the days duty doctor. That is why when your own doctor spoke to you had no clue about it.

I'm not GP receptionists fan, and deal with them through work, but when i've requested a patient is issued a prescription or I need to speak to the GP about a patient, not one receptionist has done it or made out they are a GP.

Receptionist

in reply to keepliving

There where only 2 doctors in that day and neither of them read it she didn’t hand it to a doctor she read it herself and lied, she admitted she lied to the doctors surgery manager because she got caught out when I complained about what had happened.

I’m glad you’ve had positive experiences with then I however haven’t as many many people at my surgery haven’t . This isn’t the first time it’s hapoened and I’m sure as anything sure it will happen again.

Sorry - I thought there was a reasonable explanation. But that really is a joke! If this receptionist is doing this, they should get rid of her, certainly after the first warning.

in reply to keepliving

I wouldn’t of kicked off if she had actually showed it to the doctor or any doctor but she didn’t. She even specifically called me to say” well I’ve shown the doctor she doesn’t understand and so won’t do it”

When I spoke to my doctor she was so confused saying she had never seen a letter nor was the letter on my notes she didn’t even know why I wanted to talk to her.

Yes I hope she is it’s not just her there is 3 of them there that are like this and 2 really good ones

in reply to keepliving

And as I said in that passage “she never gave it to a doctor or put it on my notes”

Dear bexamy,

I have recently CHANGED my G.P. Surgery and Pharmacy, partly because I moved, but mainly because I could! The Surgery I was at, close to my Mother's- I lived there for a few years- just became 'Worse and Worse'. In the end there were NO permanent G.P.'s, only endless 'Locums' (who necessarily couldn't get to Know you). Fortunately the Pharmacy were Brilliant, it's a shame I had to change them- though the New One seem quite good. (Apparently there is now one 'Central Number', for several different Surgeries, at the place I was at, so I probably did Move at the right time.)

In addition I have an excellent Doctor/Consultant, dealing with my case- Dr Andi, at Ipswich Hospital. (I am also under Dr David Jane's Team, at Addenbrooke's (Cambridge) for annual Reviews)

I might be completely 'Barking Up The Wrong Tree' here bexamy, but you may be able to change your Doctors/Consultants to- worth a thought perhaps? You can always give Dr Jane's Team, a 'ring'. Addenbrooke's Switchboard Number is- 01223-586613- just ask to speak to his Team. As regards changing your GP, that depends on whether there is space elsewhere, I was (finally) 'Lucky'- after about two years of looking. I don't know if Primary Care Trusts (P.C.T.'s) still exist but it might be worth finding out.

Anyway hopefully I've given you some 'Food For Thought' without, I hope, causing any offence.

Whatever you decide, please will you let us know, bexamy.

Good Luck and best wishes.

in reply to AndrewT

Also I don’t live anywhere near there I live at the very south so things are done differently here.

My consults are the best doctors around both for pain and rheumatology it’s jusy the awful girls on reception at my GPS that wind me up and have no idea what the hell their job is lol my GP is ok I changed doctors within the surgery twice to find the right one.

Thanks anyway x

I live in London and we have a big surgery and so we have real benefits like you can email a special email address which their own pharmacists deal with so queries go to someone who knows.

in reply to jeabgaff

That’s very lucky, if only we all had the same care through our the whole NHS it’s a shame really.

And it wasn’t a query it was just something a doctor needed to do that took 2 mins to do when they eventually got it lol

I object to your rather rude remarks about the receptionist she may well have not done what you say but before I retired I was a medical receptionist and they have a very difficult job in fact my stepdaughter gave it up because of the stress because the Drs are inclined to hide behind the receptionist and use them as an excuse I’ve had Drs look at there clinic list and say take that woman of my list for today and put her on another’s and I’ve said she especially wants you and they would refuse to see her so I’ve put her on the other list and when they come in and are annoyed that there not seeing the dr they want I’ve had to make up lies and take her ranting at me and this sort of thing go on a lot with Drs also a man came in our surgery with a 3 yr old and said he didn’t feel he should have to wait as there were a lot of people before his child and asked me to go in and see the dr and tell him I did and the dr said is the child still breathing I said yes so he said then he will have to wait his turn and of course I then have to go back to the dad and take the flack so please don’t put all the anger onto the receptionist as we are stuck between the Drs and the patient as a lot of patients are unaware of this

Hi I have to say I am so glad you had an eye on that receptionist because you would still be waiting for your scrips.

I have to tell you about my husband and his doctor. Now he changed his doctor (in the states they have this thing called the hippa law) which is a good thing?? Well I signed the papers so that I could deal with his prescriptions/ appointments etc. well my husband needed medicine for his asthma they wouldn’t let me order it for him. I told him he works out side and can’t be waiting on the phone to call it in. You know what they said to me, you got it he will have to call well it has been at least two years and they still don’t have it right I know you are not suppose to share medicine but it’s a good thing I take the same medication for my asthma because he would have been dead along time ago. I bet his doctor still doesn’t know what is going on. Oh brother these redemptions need to realize they are not the doctor I guess it doesn’t matter what part of the world your in they are all the same. It’s very sad and dangerous.

in reply to ssdw1958

I’ve been with them a long time and even though people think I’m young I’m extremely far from stupid and gullible and I won’t put up with crap like that from people.

Oh that’s outragous how dare that do that to you, have you spoken to your husbands doctor since maybe make him awake in an appointment or something of what’s going on? Well done for sharing with him I get your not meant to but sometimes it’s needed.

They just all think they hold the power just because they answer a bloody phone all day it drives me nuts that these people have access to my medical records, and if they really wanted to they can just turn people away or give bad medical advise and the doctors would be non the wiser.

I’ve heard them do it to my friend her little girl was ill they just said well give her Calpol and go to the hospital we don’t need her make my everyone else sick, I was fuming when I heard that but they got a last warning for doing that ( this was my doctors surgery as well)

I would love to do their job and actually care about the people I’m talking to rather than put them down or try and diagnose over the phone lol

I am glad you took it up with the practice manager, and that you have a good relationship with her, but have you also thought of contacting your local Healthwatch about it? They collect feedback from patients about their GP practices and they can report it back if they find they are getting similar feedback from different people.

I know that there is a shortage of GPs and all of them are looking to have some of their jobs done by other people, but when it causes extra problems, it is called failure demand, and there is a lot of that around in the NHS.

As for receptionists, they need to learn some humility.

in reply to cyberbarn

Yes I contacted them when I had a rather large issue with them all last year and since then it got a lot better because as it turns out shocker sooo many other people felt the same way. The reviews just online for my doctors are appalling.

I’m 27 with a four year old son and bedbound I won’t allow my care to be subpar or slack at all but I think they get that now lol
