I've twisted my ankle Friday and start a new job Monday night (12hour night shift) I will be on my feet for most ov that. How can I get the swelling down and keep the pain under control?

You can't possibly start a new job in your circumstances, you must phone them and tell them you can't go till it's better, because even if you try to go either your make the swelling worse and you won't be able to do the job properly anyway.. You need a week to get the foot and ankle better. Good luck.

I also want to say standing on your feet with a twisted ankle is definitely a big No I have had a badly twisted ankle and at time I worked in a department store. I remember I couldn’t even drive, I was on crutches and the only time I went to work was one time and that was to do the sales books. Believe me when I say I was so glad to go home, and put my foot up. To get home I had to call my mom for a ride. I know it’s not the right way to start a new job.

Good luck elevate your foot.

Have to agree with others you should call your new employer, even though it is not a good start but these things happen. Then you could try cold compress or support bandage to reduce swelling and any pain plus foot up. Best Wishes for a speedy recovery.

Sounds like you have everything under control, I recall badly spraining my ankle years ago and still working in a stand up job. So the choice to work is up to you really. Understand what you mean jobs are not easy to come by these days, I had a support bandage from ankle to knee till it was better a few weeks later. Good Luck.

Thankyou for your reply. I need this job tbh and i know it maybe a struggle the 1st week but as iv never previously worked nights. Im hoping this shift is at least going to give me an extra 16 hrs to rest it(could have started at 6am mon but picked the night shift as better rate of pay!) Fingers crossed i can get through it but all/any advice will be taken prior! Thanx everyone.
