I can see from your other posts that your son is 12 and that you have Lupus so I can understand that you might be worried that this might be a sign that your son too has lupus, or maybe you are worried that he has something else?

Some decree of Genu Varum is found as normal in the general population. Did whoever diagnosed it say it was outside of the range of normal?

Did they check his vitamin D levels? The main cause is lack of Vitamin D.

It could be a structural thing that is just him, or there are some other connective tissue disorders that can cause the joints to be loose but as far as I know lupus is not connected to it.

Thank you for your reply Cyberbarn, he has been diagnosed this month from the orthopaedic doctor the doctor said its severe. He is on victim D from last year.

I'm very worried about his mobility in school etc. And I'm just wondering if what my son has is classed as a disability ?

Are you in the UK? Disability in the UK doesn't depend on the diagnosis, but on whether or not it affects your every day life, and by how much. So my son and I both have Ehlers Danlos, but his is worse than mine. So he is disabled by it and gets disability benefits, I am not disabled by it as I can carry on with every day life, and so don't get any benefits or am in any way classed as disabled.

So it really depends on how much it affects them.

Thank you so much for your reply. And yes I'm in the UK. I'm very worried about other children teasing him.

Yes, it is worrying that others might tease him, children can be so cruel, but the school if they are told about that will be able to deal with that. There is so much more integration now that they have closed the special schools that kids are more used to this sort of thing in many areas. Has there been any incidents of teasing yet?

I have tibial torsion, so my knees don't meet when I stand straight, if I do turn my knees to meet my feet stick out rather than go together. I did get the odd comment, but it never bothered me. My sister has the same and sometimes it did bother her, but she was a very different person to me, so it will also depend on how resilient your son is.

It is like how kids respond to being called four eyes when they wear glasses. I just said back 'four eyes are better than two' and walked away. Because it didn't bother me they didn't bother to try to tease me.

Yes kids are horrible to each other. My seven year old daughter goes through horrible things at school too. She wears hearing aids and they call her names. They tell her to bend down and pull her glasses off her face. With regarding to my son they trip him up from behind it's disgusting. I will be on at the school next month
