It's probably trigger point pain. The way to release them is to press on them, like accupuncture. Google shoulder trigger pain and you'll find some charts that show the trigger and where the pain is felt. There are also videos on you tubenthat show you how to do a release. Then ask someone to press on the trigger for 10 -60 secs, as hard as you can tolerate, which may not be very much to begin with and release. They may have to prod around to get the trigger, but you'll feel it when they do. You can do this daily, or twice daily. You should feel instant relief and freer movement. It may cause fatigue as well. It won't harm you doing it yourself.

The more you do this, the less active the trigger becomes. It may take days, or weeks, but persevere. Also do basic neck and arm movements just to your limit of pain a couple of times a day as well. Be gentle with your everyday movements too. Don't strain anymore by twisting or carrying heavy things. If your arm is sore, you may want to support it on a cushion when sitting, just for an hour at a time, to give it a rest. You really need to keep trying to do your usual movements.

You can also use warmth on them. Gentle warmth not very hot, shower or bath, is probably best way. Massage helps too, starting gently, then a bit stronger and then gently again.

These triggers will become a weak spot for you and will flare up in the future, sometimes for no apparent reason. But it's important to treat them sooner, because triggers "talk" to each other and will slowly spread the pain to other areas in your body.

Once you have no pain, do exercises to build up your back, shoulder and arm muscles. This will help to stop it coming back. And if it does come back, it won't last as long.
