Sciatica pain

Hi - I'm new to this. I have sciatica; lots of pain, pins and needles etc. in my left leg. I'm taking high strength co-codamol and gabapentin. Had a lumbar spine MRI yesterday to see what the cause is (if any). The pain is not stopping me from working or my yoga classes or stretches I've seen online but it's all very disheartening. My question is, does anyone suffer from what feels like a huge spasm at the front of their leg in the muscle? It comes on and off and I can't find something to relieve it at all. Many thanks.

Hi Kagz- thank you for your reply. It's a frustrating and sometimes soul destroying illness (illness doesn't seem the right word). The pain is so difficult to explain but so real! I really hope you find a way of coping with it all xx

Co-codamol might give you constipation so keep some LACTULOSE on hand,

I cannot see it being sciatica if it runs down the FRONT of your leg,

Since having spinal reduction done I get severe pains that run down my shin bone and that really hurts, it feels like somebody has kicked your shin bone,

But sciatica runs down the back of your legs from spine across the buttocks down the back of the thigh and calf, I have found nothing to stop this sciatic pain, now being referred to a pain clinic,

I have never felt so much pain in my life since having this spinal reduction operation done, if I had known I would not have had it done but carried on with the pain I had before, at least I could walk to my car and drive for 400 mls or more, now can't even walk as far as my car and cannot sit in the drivers seat for more than five minutes before I am in extreme pain.

I am told I sufferer from Piriformis syndrome. which nips the sciatic nerve. Have lots , of pain which travels down my butt, and down my leg to the ankle and foot nothing at the front of leg. I use hot water bottle to help me sleep. I am on gabapentin. Have not had any one say they get it at front of leg wonder if this is something else. Hope you get it sorted soon. When in pain you feel so alone.

Yendormas, I too love heat. I have narrowing in my L3-4-5 . I recently had radiofrequency denervevation ( burn nerves) done and was told to strictly use ice, no heating pad. Heating pad not good on nerves. I soooo miss my heating pad but have to admit Ice does help inflamed nerves.

I have had sciatic pain for nearly 5 years, a lamonectomy in 2014 which helped for a few months, but my pain is now the same as pre op, due to nerve damage.

I've been on the majority of tablets like gabapentin, but side effects, weren't good, so I'm on morphine and nortriptilyne, still in pain, the pain clinic said there's nothing else they can give me, as I drive, I have to limit oramorph.

I try to stay positive, keep going.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I don't know if they make me feel better or worse but I realise there are a lot of us out there with a lot of pain to deal with. I guess I'll have to wait for my MRI results and take from there xx
