Mouth/throat problems.

I'm not so sure where is a better place to post this, so forgive me.

Honestly, I'm stumped. Last month, I developed a sort of lump feeling in my throat. It wasn't in my esohougus, but in the back of my throat where it just starts to go down, if that makes any sense. After developing it, I developed severe gastrointestinal issues, from constipation to diarrhea, to awfully painful stomach cramps. Those lasted 3 weeks, and have mostly resolved (I still get an upset tummy from time to time).

The lump's been there ever since, every day, 24/7.

It's evolved to me having a heavy feeling in my head, along with headaches daily. I'm also tired all the time even when I sleep 9 hours. The worse is an awful feeling of tightness in my tongue, mainly in the back of it. My tongue also sometimes "tingles" on the front, which is the best way I can describe it. Along with it, I've been having lots of mucus (clear/white) in my throat, along with a constant stuffy nose, which won't go away even after my GP prescribed Zyrtec. She even told me to double my dosage daily.

The tightness is in the back of my tongue and throat. Sometimes my throat is sore, sometimes it hurts to swallow, but usually it doesn't. It radiates to my palate and the area under my tongue. It's worse in the area around the tonsils, and reaches up to the back of my tongue.

I'm at my wits end. I have to wait another month until I see ENT, but I can barely talk or eat without the feeling that my throat and tongue is getting super tight.

It's driving me crazy. I would love to know if someone else has gone through this, and if it went away. Thank you.

edit: My apologies, I completely forgot to mention I had an endoscopy along with 2 CT scans (1 of throat other of abdomen). Everything was completely normal.

Hello Victoriabear, I have been going through a similar problem been to ENT to illiminate cancer and the DR said I like what I see in there and it will get better. In order to lessen the problem I have stopped a tablet for gout, but it is not the total answer as my voice still keeps fading the only way I keep it at bay is drinking lots of fluid, plus another freind said the same about her throat drink more.Wondered if the dry weather was a cause. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Thank you. I have been trying myself lately to drink tons of water.

Have you been tested for Dysmotility?

No, I haven't.

Just a thought as we can't do diagnosis. Maybe worth asking your GP

I had a similar problem, although not as bad as you. I saw the ENT who did an endoscopy and he found nothing. he then explained that sometimes the nerves in the throat can become hypersensitive so that we notice every little thing more. Normally we have lots of mucus that travels down out throat but when the nerves get more sensitive we notice it, whereas normally we don't take any notice of these things.

And of course the more we worry about these things, the more prominent they are, and the more we worry. I had to make a huge mental effort to ignore it all after I saw the ENT, but most of the time I can do it.

I am not saying that this is what you have, but it is common, so if the ENT says that all is fine, at least you will be prepared for that!

I forgot to mention in my post, but I did have an endoscopy done, but that was for the gastro problems. My GI said nothing was wrong with my esophagus and stomach.

How long did it take for yours to relieve?

Hello hello, Victoriabear (LOVE the handle, BTW😍)! I just saw your post and wanted to reassure you that you're not alone in your suffering (but I do want to say this first: I am deeply sorry that you're enduring this pain and disability. I can't begin to imagine how difficult and scary this experience has been for you😥)

I wish with all my heart that I could recommend a magic pill or a miracle treatment that was guaranteed to cure everything that ails you😞 But my Mom has been through a very similar experience to yours, and I share some of those symptoms as well--so at the very least, we can hopefully give you the medicine of empathy and support at the very least, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that ideally, something my Mom or I have been prescribed/had recommended to us will prove to be helpful to you😋.

I'd be delighted to share our experience with you in hopes that that will be the case😍! But it'll be a pretty long post, and much as I don't want to, I've gotta turn in for the moment (it's well after midnight here in Colorado, USA😉), 'cause I have a long and early day at the infusion center tomorrow...but I'll be happy to write everything down for you at my first opportunity😋

I just wanted to send you this note ASAP, so that you know that someone out in the wide world has indeed heard your voice calling through the ethers😋, and reassure you that your not alone--not in your experience, not in your symptoms, not on this journey to finding effective treatment and concrete answers and reliable support😊

And most of all, you're not alone on this site--I am constantly amazed and appreciative at how many wise, generous, and caring people belong to it, and how many of them have incredible advice and useful information to share, and they share it quickly, consistently, abundantly, and selflessly😍

So I have no doubt that you will receive something of benefit here; in fact, I wouldn't at all be surprised if you found your "tribe" (kindred spirits😍!) You mentioned in your opening sentence that you weren't sure if you "posted in the right place"--and good news, you did😋!! Because your post did indeed find a reader--and not only that, it found a reader that recognized and shared the concerns you're carrying and seeking answers about😃

And in truth, I wholeheartedly believe that there really isn't a "wrong" place to post on this site; things seem to have a miraculous and magical way of getting exactly where they need to go, whether you know for sure from the outset where that place is or not😋 As I mentioned earlier, this is a very welcoming bunch here for the most part, and they so often go above and beyond to be of service to their fellow patients😉

In other words, you posted in the PERFECT place, Victoriabear😃! Best wishes for a restful and restorative evening; I'll be in touch as soon as I can😍

Thank you so much for your answer (and for complimenting my username hehe, love yours too ❤). It made me feel reassured, especially knowing that you, your mother, and many others have gone through a very similar experience. I would love to know your mother and yours experience, too. Thank you so much again! :)

Hi Victoriabear😍❣️ I just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about you😋!; I'm working on a response to your posts as we speak😉

Unfortunately I got a little delayed, because I was at a hospital all day Thursday getting an endoscopy/biopsy procedure--and since they used general anesthesia (Propofol; if you've never experienced that medication personally, it feels like all your brain cells have been turned into dust bunnies😋😉), that caused nausea and many raised welts/hives, I've been having a rough time regaining my footing well enough to write a cohesive letter😋

And I have so much to tell you about the experiences/diagnoses/treatments that my Mom and I have had that are similar to yours, and since you asked for that information in detail, I want to do the most thorough and descriptive post that I can for you😍

I'm starting to turn a corner now, though (all those anesthesia drugs are finally working their way out of my system), so I should be able to finish my letter very soon😉.

Speaking of which--do you happen to have an email address(?). This post will be super long, and it might be hard to read in this app format; however, I could fit it all in one letter if I can send it via email😋

But no worries if you don't have email; in that case, I can easily post my letter in the text thread as usual 😌

Alrighty then, I'll be in touch as soon as I can--I just wanted to reassure you that help is coming, and people care very much for your well-being, so I'm 110% confident that you'll get some support and advice from this site that will ease your fears and give you some answers😋

In the meantime, hang in there--I suffer swallowing problems similar to yours (caused in my case by a combination of factors, including a stroke, nerve damage in my soft palate, VZV infection, and Mast cell activation disorder), so i can empathize with how exhausting, overwhelming, scary, and painful thatcexoerience can be l😳 I can't tell you how sorry I am that you're having to endure such disability and suffering😥

But the good news is, there ARE interventions that can help restore function (depending upon the cause, of course) and relieve your symptoms, and I'm praying that they will give you a full healing as quickly as possible😋

Again, you are not alone in this...a lot of us in this website have rare diseases (and/or rare manifestations of common illnesses), so they have struggled with the same frustrations, fears, and pain that you have; at the very least, I pray that hearing about us "kindred spirits" and our stories will help you feel better about the whole thing, and give you hope that things will take a turn for the better very very soon😍 I'll be in touch!

Best wishes!!

Victoria, do you have a family doc? This needs attention ASAP!!!! He could order all sorts of tests like a CT scan for that area to make sure there is not a growth of any kind. The gastro issues could have been totally unrelated and a coincidence, or maybe not but you HAVE to do something. Do you have thyroid problems? Please, my caps and exclamation points are not to yell or scold you. I used them because I am sooooo concerned.

in reply to mataubkitty

Yes, and forgot to mention in my post, I had an endoscopy along with CT scans done on my throat and abdomen. Nothing was found. My GP checked my thyroid, said it was completely fine too. Thank you for your concern. :)

How did your GP check your Thyroid? Did you have an Ultrasound scan of your Thyroid? What blood tests did you have? Any for Antibodies?

That's a long time to wait for ENT appoinment. Hopefully the Specialist will do a nasendoscope and be able to find the cause.

Have you considered going to A&E?

X🐥

in reply to Mary-intussuception

She just felt it, which probably isn't an efficient method. I didn't have an ultrasound.

I only had blood test done in the ER, which is where I went when I first developed the feeling due to it being quite a scare. They told me everything was normal, even looked in my mouth, said it was alright.

Yes, I agree, and I hope so too. ❤
