Torn muscle - upper arm

I did this on Friday (two days ago). Saw a GP friday night. She gave me ibuprofen and cocodamol. The pain is excruciating and I can barely dress myself or even lie down. Every movement hurts. Does anyone know how long this goes on before it starts to mend? I'm scared because I live alone.

hello Sister-in-law, sorry to have to be bearer of not so good news, it will take some time for a torn upper arm muscle to get back to normal, as do after effects of broken bones. It should get less painfull as each day goes by. I appreciate your concerns when living alone , as I live alone too. Best advise I can give is do only the basics, buy a sports bra or go braless, wear loose T shirts as they are easy to get on, give your arm frequent rest till the pain reduces. Ice packs and wheat bags help reduce the pain as does Voltaral rubbed on the area. There are no easy solutions, you will probably need help with shopping too, ready meals are a simple idea at first. Good luck with it, physio might help later if it stays painfull after a few weeks. I have ongoing arthritis in the upper limbs and have had two broken shoulders so have vast knowledge&experience of coping with everyday limitations in arm movements. Confess I resorted to hand held snacks from fridge when arms would not work. :) Hope the pain is reducing with the painkillers take care x

Thank you. It's good to have some clarity. Right now the pain is still pretty bad but I'm hoping to get better medication from gp today. Frustrating situation as I've been very involved helping with the election campaign locally. Xx

Hi i am recovering from a broken pelvis and a hairline fracture of my spine so moving is very painful. Here's what I have learnt

1. ready meals easy to eat snacks

2. If you can move kettle close to you so no need to carry things luckily I have one that just heats 1 cup and pours it out by breville and it's a god send

3. easy to put on and take off clothes

4. no one is going to be worried if you don't have a full shower /wash baby wipes do a great job

5. on line food delivery they will take it to where you want it put

6. Ask for help off your family and friends don't be too stubborn like me and think you have to do it.

7. Get the strongest pain relief offered it's only for a short time and it will make life easier

8. Forget the housework it won't hurt if it isn't done

Hope this helps
