Thought I'd update you all on my visit to the Dr's regarding my high ferratin levels. Now my gp has contacted my local hospital for advice on this as in his word (us gps don't know everything). I liked his honesty and also the fact that he had done this for me. Now I Do have an apt at another hospital in November to goto the hemotology unit for tests . Now I don't know if others in the Uk can pick which hospital they wish to be seen in. But we're given a choice of about 3 that we can choose from.
Anyway the dr he spoke to has told me not too worry as it's a common problem, an could be any number of factors why it's high. My gp mentioned he was going to test for hep c ,but the Dr he spoke to said no its not that. So he's been advised to get another load of tests done on the 14/11/16,which is a week before I goto see the hemotologist, so then if they ask we have a fresh lot of bloods to show them. So this has put my mind at rest. 👍.
Whilst there we disgusted my meds for my other health problem. He changed my meds from taking amatryptatine to taking diazaapm and cilatropram (think that's how ya spell it). Anyway I tried it for a week, will firstly I wasn't sleeping properly and ended up with severe stomach cramps. A week was long enough of that. So now back on my amatryptatine and still keep taking all the other drugs that I take. So back to the drawing board for me. One day I might get 1 day pain free. Hopefully in this life time. 😃.

I have just given bloods for the high ferritin. I previously advised an ESR- but that is not done anymore apparently - much to my gps disgust. CPR Is the one to get for inflammation indicator.
They should get a trend for the ferritin and proceed accordingly. If mine is static or increasing, I will push for phlebotomy (giving blood) which is a long slow way of reducing the ferritin level.
I'll have to try and remember about the cpr inflammation indicator when I next see him. Think I'll have to put it on the calender as appointment isn't until November and I'll forget about it by then. "Forgot what I done last week, never mind remembering something in November".terrible memory. My friend says it's my age (cheeky mare I'm only 43).lol.😃
Just a thought on your hospital choices- could you google their reviews- especially their hemotologists? I find that is often a good indicator- if its available! ! If you can't get word of mouth recommendations.
Another nuggget of useless info--- I went to hemotologist and she looked at all blood indicators- ruled out genetic and other blood causes. Came out as "Asymptomatic"- her word! She then passed me on to the Endocrinologist (liver and tummy) who ruled out every thing else.
In my research , I came across a thing called - Hebcidin- spelling? Which apparrently is a newly discovered 'switch' for the body turning on and off ferritin manufacture. If the signal is set wrong for some reason , the ferritin can go way high for no purpose. There is a medecine to regulate this switch. All this is relatively new discovery and my GP was 'vague ' about it and whether there was a test for it. ( there has to be one) The Endo was very defensive when I raised it and spouted science at me like I was a final year med student.😅
I will do more research in meantime.
