Radio frequency Treatment

Hello everyone

My Pain Consultant has recommended I have Radiofrequency treatment for my persistent right leg nerve pain.

I would love to read of forum members experiences of this, did it work, give longer relief , any problems afterwards?.

Many thanks

They used it to try and reduce pain & straighten my leg a few years back by inserting knitting type needles at nerve junction and using electricity to shock. It wasn't successful. I ended up having 3 bouts of nerve surgery over last 3 years. I can straighten leg for a second or two but am in chronic pain.

Give it a go, anything is worth a try.

Hi Nick

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry it didn't work and you've had all those surgeries to limited effect!. It really is Russian Roulette trying to treat nerve pain which is so persistent!. What painkillers do you take?. I will be giving it a go as need break from the pain, hope I get good result!. Regards Misty.

Hi Misty.

I've tried and had a lot of different meds incl OxyContin, lidocaine etc

I'm now on:

Pregabalin 600

Mirtazapine

Amitryptiline

Oramorph

and

Paracetamol with Ibuprofen

Capsaicin cream 0.75

Have just been referred to Hammersmith from surgeon in Salisbury for further pain relief treatment.

Finger crossed for you to get a good result

All the best

Hi Nick

Your drugs are very similar to mine, it's hard getting the right amount of relief to live life without horrible side effects isn't it?. I really hope you get good relief from treatment at Hammersmith and you don't have too long a wait. You've been thru enough. That's hard too!. I will post an update as to how I get on and you do the same. Best of luck. Misty.

I'm not sure if I had the same as you. They inserted a large electrical conductor into me them earthed me before passing electricity thru me. I think, having thought about it and looked it up that you are having a different treatment so no need to worry! Get them to fully explain it all in advance.

All the best

Hi Nick

Thanks for your reply. I think what I'm having is similar as Pain consultant said nerves don't like electricity and did explain how it's done. Not quite as dangerous as yours I don't think!. Hope you hear from Hammersmith soon. Misty

Have known 3 people who had good results with radio frequency ablation for nerve pain. They were treated at a large US medical center by very experienced MDs.

Hi Misty

I had never heard of this treatment before. I am going to ask my pain consultant at the pain clinic about it, so thank you! And it's good to see some have had results from it. But saying that, I don't hold out much hope from my consultant, I have already mentioned a nerve block to her and she dismissed it saying it wouldn't help me. And I can't have TENS as I am in remission from bowel cancer, she said it could bring the cancer back using it.

Hi Flamey

Can I ask what kind of pain you have?. My pain consultant said nerves don't like electricity which is why it can be very effective. I've also had nerve block injections which do work well but it just hasn't been for a long time!. Could do with the break!. Sounds like you've been thru it battling bowel cancer, glad your in remission. Definitely worth asking your pain clinic about the treatment. I've been heartened by all the positive responses I've had. X

I had this done on my back and was told it would give me relief for about a year. It lasted almost two and I can't wait to get it done again

Hi mamma

Thank you for your reply, fantastic to get relief for two years!. I've been told can be a year like you!. Longest relief I've had from injections is six weeks so won't know myself if it happens!. Interesting you can have it repeated!. I hope you get similar long time when you have it done next. Fingers crossed. X
