Really need a rant...

It's nearly 5am and I'm lying here in bed next to my husband who has been snoring happily for hours (oh how I'd love to punch him right now!!).

I'm struggling to decide which it is that's keeping me awake at the minute... is it

a) the feeling that alien is going to burst out of my chest any second because during an impromptu bar meal at 6pm, I stupidly forgot that I can't eat tartre sauce anymore thanks to a hiatus hernia. 11hrs and 2 omeprazole later and the agony is eventually starting to subside...

b) the feeling that my ankle is going to explode because it has to be kept elevated above my hips following surgery to fix a gnarly break, and getting my wheelchair (complete with leg rest) close enough to the table to reach my food was damned near impossible, so I gave up and foolishly sat at the table with my leg down...for an hour and it's still swollen and bloody killing me 12hrs later...

c) the 5wk flare up of degenerative disc disease/herniated discs/osteophytes etc that I had just more or less managed to get on top of when I broke my bloody ankle. The op was to fix the bones with metal plated, screws and possibly wires and I can't put any weight on it whatsoever so have to haul myself around on crutches. Everytime I need the loo (and at bedtime) I have to drag myself up and down what feels like Mount Doom on my bum as my stairs are to steep and scary to negotiate any other way. You'd think it might get easier after 5 wks, but after 5wks of being almost completely immobile, I've gained at least 1 stone - maybe 2...

Or is it d) the obsecen moodswings, depression (and very possibly pms) thanks to PCOS - which is why I really, really, really want to punch my snoring husband right now - my anger levels (and probably BP) are increasingly as hever gets louder and just to top it off, he's breathing horrible, smelly morning breath in my face!!! Grrrr!! (I know, I know, I'm awful!!)

I'd like to send my body back for a refund now please if I may??

No?

Ok then, I'll settle for having symptoms from only 1 condition per day then instead of having everything at once....

Still no?

Bloody great.

Life, you and I are no longer friends!!!!

And now it's nearly 5.30am, the hubster will be off to work in a few hours and my poor daughter, who is having the worst 6wks hols ever, will be waking up to complain that she's not my slave and I should go and get my own drink of water.

Oh the joys....

Please cheer me up with your rants!

Well done for the light touch you brought to your rant! You made me smile so thank you @mistee. I can relate to a lot of what you say oddly enough....I. Was in plaster 4 months (no longer thankfully) and it triggered a horrible flare of my daily pain .... Then the stairs.... And the crutches. I remember the shuffle on the bum to get up and down.... ouch!! Hubby sleeps in spare room so he can get his 9 hours blissful sleep when I am sitting up in bed in pain. Lucky man..... What is sleep? I can barely remember ! You made me smile, although I feel so sorry for you, because I felt that I was not alone. I really hope that your symptoms subside and your ankle heals well. Cheers! :)

The great thing about a good old rant is realising you're not alone!! My heart goes out to you and I hope it eases quickly for you!!

Wow, you really have a knack for writing. Your rant made me smile so much that i don't even want to respond with my own rant now :). But i am really sorry you are going through so much, i hope you feel better soon. My husband snores real bad too and now whenever i am in pain we sleep in different rooms. I just cannot deal with his snoring when i am in pain, and i told him there are no guarantees that i wouldnt kill him off.

Haha oh I used to love separate rooms! My daughter broke her bed a couple of years ago though and I didn't have enough money for a new one so we moved her into the spare room 😣 I have on occasion sent him in to sleep with her, but she usually wakes up and comes in with me and wriggles all night! 😂

Sorry but you made me laugh it is all to familiar.

Having that extra item lol the dreaded boot ankle operation has added to your plight. Also, causing your DDD to become worse. It's the inactivity different pressure you are putting on your back you probably know this? It's a shame when you were just getting it under control how life deals us such blows.

I'm Suffering the same - I'm in bed to long with this food poisoning is playing havoc with my spinal stenosis because I'm not moving. Like you before this I was on top of it. Grrrrr

Oh and the snoring I could write a book. The OH is lovely couldn't wish for better. It's the only time I want to kill him whilst snoring I'm so nasty.

We do have one difference the food poisoning has caused a loss of half a stone I'm tiny anyway 😩

When I had my foot ankle done I had a boot for 6 months couldn't get about multiple fractures. I put on half a stone but lost it ASAP when the rotten thing came off.

Anyway, I am truly sorry for your predicament and hope the ankle will not take much longer to heal & your daughter will stop thinking she's your slave lol Just like you lovingly slaved over her bringing her up through this difficult world.

Take care

No, you're not awful. You're going through a hell of a lot right now. Why, may I ask, is your husband snoring so badly? Is it alcohol-related? I used to wish all sorts on my ex-husband who thought nothing of me having to go to work on only 2 hours' sleep because of his drinking and snoring :-( And...if I may be so bold, why is there so much disrespect coming from your daughter? I feel really bad for you :-( xx

Mistee profile image

Ah no, no drinking involved, he's just a really loud snorer (is that a word?!) He's just really tired with working full time, doing all the shopping, cooking and cleaning as well as getting me and the the little one in and out of the tub.

And she's not so bad, just frustrated. I'd been using my husbands bike to build my strength up and had just taken delivery of my own bike the day before I broke my ankle. We'd joined the national trust too and had made loads of plans for most days of the school hols where as she's been off for 2 weeks and has only left the house once. She's been really good actually, with helping me carry stuff up and down and getting food and stuff, she just got a bit fed up yesterday and told me she wasn't my slave when I asked her to get me a glass water - but it was about the 5th thing I'd asked for in a very short space of time and she heard my husband joke about being my slave so it was more a display of frustration than it was being cheeky and disrespectful

The rant says I have a problem that needs solving. Rants are good on occasion, it sounds like action is needed. You need more sleep. Lack of sleep has an influence on increasing pain and discomfort. Lack of sleep will give you the symptoms of depression and give you symptoms of lack of emotional control.

Dare I suggest it. It may be useful to sleep by yourself for a short period of time until your lack of sleep is repaired. Everyone, may be a lot better for it. This is worth investigating to see if this suggestion helps or not.

Hope this is helpful.

Your writing made me laugh too. My husband has the misfortune of being awake most nights from insomnia while Im fast asleep (somehow I can sleep in pain by taking trazadone). I can relate with stairs, I have DDD and a lung problem but fortunately am on the ground floor now, I hated not being able to go outside. Your daughter didn't mean what she said, its frustrating for everyone when we are sick. I too wish I could just have one illness kicking my ass at a time. My best wishes you have a better day today.

Dear Mistee,

I have read your 'rant' but can only offer you 'Moral' support, I'm afraid.

I can sympathise, to some extent however-even though I'm not a wheel chair user myself. I have had my 'fair' share, of problems...A Kidney transplant, three years ago (with four years of dialysis prior to it), heart failure, 'tummy troubles' (acid stomach, sickness and (yes)constipation-especially that!). Rheumatoid Arthritis, causing my joints to swell/lock and hurt! My skin is covered in warts, or similar, that have to be frozen, or burned, off periodically. I am prone to fungal infections, especially of the feet, bum and genitals (a 'sore willy' can really get a bloke 'down'-trust me here.) All this, quite apart, from headaches, a almost permeant blocked nose-though I confess I DO enjoy picking it (and eating it too). Now you have ME 'ranting' Mistee.

One, very, very important 'thing' we must remember is ...That we are ALIVE! How long were you 'given', an hour...Two...maybe a week? Certainly no more than the end of the year, I'll wager! So the next time the snoring is driving you, absolutely f....g mad, your bottom is as sore as ...k, you have wet yourself, in sheer desperation and even breathing seems like too much effort......you are feeling these 'things' because you ARE alive! So 'struggle' out of bed, down the stairs, fight the fatigue and make yourself a cup of tea. Sit down, enjoy life, for better or worse-it IS precious!

I hope that this HAS brightened, your mood-a bit anyway, Mistee. As a, recently Confirmed, Christian I will pray for you. I send you my very best wishes and genuinely hope that you feel better soon.

My husband not only snores like a pig but also swears like a trooper all night then complaints in the morning that he hardly slept. We now sleep in separate rooms and it works well for both of us. I don't sleep much due to pain so I can fidget as much as I like and even cry without worrying that he can hear me. Hope you feel better soon. X

Hello there. Your rant made me smile too mistee. It also made me realise I'm not alone. I don't understand why sometimes every condition I have flares up: fibro, low back and sciatica, neck pain due to disc bulges, headaches, TMJ, anxiey, depression, CFS, acid reflux, muscle stiffness.

If I have to pick something off the floor, it takes foreever to get. Heck, sometimes I'll just lie there and hope someone eventually stumbles upon me and gives me a hand up.

When my ex snored, it felt like the roof was lifting off. So I never had a problem with whispering in his ear softly: STOP. SNORING. Did the trick nicely and then it would start all.over again: roof lifts up ... roof settles down ... roof lifts up ... roof settles down 😩

Hello☺ Thank you for the rip roring laugh😄😂 That rant was excellent!!!

Sometimes I say out loud to my partner "I wonder if I would go to jail for murdering you. You know wonder if sleep deprevation, for decades is an excuse" . Generally shuts him up for months 😆 (sure he thinks I'm a bit of a psychopath at times 😲)

I have this ridiculous genetic condition called Progressive Episodic Ataxia 😩 which is loss of balance/control ~ because it is so rare, we are lumped in with MS/Parkinsons/MD ~ but because I don't specifically have those diseases there is no "help medically" ~ just lots of head scratching by medical staff 😨 Causes lots of rants to go on in my own head 😋 I injure myself ALL the time ~ I broke my fingers and refused to go to the hospital because I was too busy (mums 70th birthday was being held at my house the next day, people were flying in, there's only one of me and I was nearly ready)I needed my body as it was without a cast tied up in some ridic angle "to facilitate healing" As soon as the last person was waved goodbye at the airport off to the hospital I went, everything was worse than expected, so recovery period went on forever, and I still had to clean up 😲

Yep totally want a refund too!!

Thank you!!

Loved your "Rant". Know only too well bout the snoring upsetting the long term chronic pain sleep.....only its me waking my own self up with the snoring!?!?! Lorrl. I wish u well and thank you for putting a light hearted spin on what could easily become a serious mental health issue, brought on by serious physiological causes. You are a legend.....hugs. ;)

Mistee, how much do I relate to your rant! Spent all last night too sore to sleep also with a fabulous man whose only fault is he snores like a train at night, no sleep there again! And when I asked for a refund or return on this ever increasingly painful body, they too giggled and said no chance, did you keep the receipt??? 😖 I've even also had the stroppy daughter scenario who said the very same words but thankfully now has blossomed into a delightful young lady (eventually!)

I LOVE a good rant, on here, in my diary, in my head or to anyone who will listen, it's a good way of getting out all the crap that builds up in my head and without them, I think I'd be a basket case! Ranters of the world unite......!! 😂
