I've just been granted a blue badge...
I was granted enhanced care pip back at the start of the year (backdated to initial date) but nothing for mobility. I have just been granted a blue badge and was wondering if I should call dwp with change in circumstance to mobility to hopefully get even the low rate but I'm hesitating cos I've been told I could end up worst case even taking my care award of me?! Any help or advice out there? Thank you 
There will always be a risk when asking for a change in your benefits. I was on low care and when my walking was effected I had everything tAkken away. Even though two weeks after their decision I was in a wheelchair. It took till 2 weeks ago to get something back.
Check your up to scratch with your criteria and that you understand how your care allowance applies to you and then look at mobility. You will have to go through all of your care evidence again as well as your mobility.
It took nearly a year without any help to get standard care and enhanced mobility. That is mainly due to having to use a wheelchair as pain in hip has stopped me walking altogether.
I do doubt I will approach doing it, but I've found 'Advocacy for disabled people CIC' and sent them exactly what you've just read so will see what they say...it was my housing officer who said to think about it but in fairness to her she said she'd look into it too and it is totally my choice. I didn't get one single point for mobility when they assessed me cos I could walk to the car but I have got worse since and gone up 2 doses on my buttons patch! You need to exercise extreme care dealing with mobility benefits, you are dealing with mostly junior staff not properly trained and with no knowledge of life and your medical circumstances, they seem to take great delight in making life even more difficult, I suspect that this is because they are trained only to reduce benefits not increase them. YOU NEED EXPERT ADVICE ! find a organization that advise on benefits, you can try Citizens advice centre first, but a lot of them are reluctant to help as they do not have the knowledge, In bristol there is an Free Legal Advisor that specialises, he acted for a friend of mine, and they only backed down 3 days before the court hearing on her appeal. They were assisted by Legal Students from Bristol university. If you live in or near a university town find out if they have a similar system. I know it is stressful and time consuming. But if your legal advisor says you have a good case, then go for it. But do not take legal advice unless you are satisfied that they do actually know what they are talking about. Good Luck.

Yes I know what you mean I'm on lowest level DLA and that means I get Working Tax Credits this was given to me years ago because of the damage I did to my hands while working to hard so I get the care allowance because I can't do everything for myself. Since then I have Osteoarthritis in my neck and arthritis in my knees. I asked C A B and they said first they will stop all your benefits and more than likely say no. Then you can appeal and if you win this would have been some months down the road and in the mean time you could even end homeless because there remit is reduce benefits not to actually help people by being honest and help them if they need that help.

Apart from CAB and any other free advice service available this is a site I swear by. benefitsandwork.co.uk. I, and many others have found them invaluable. To get access to the real in dept material you have to join. It'll be the best £20 you've ever spent, hopefully. They have helped me through DLA, ESA and now PIP and my appeal against standard rate mobility. Good luck and GO GET 'EM!!😊

If I can't without paying it il just bear them in mind further down the line if I need to. Although I don't work and I will be a student in September, do I have to be working for them to help me do u no?
I am on Support ESA and have Blue Badge. The new mobility rules for PIP are 20 metres which is lower than the 50 metre rule the old DLA had. However the councils tend to use the High Mobility PIP as a guarantee of getting a blue badge, but they do have the right to supply one if the need is proven.
By asking for a reconsideration it could mean that your claim is looked at again and depending on who reads it and then interprets it to fit their DWP criteria, could mean a better or worse outcome.
I am one of the "Well you do not look ill group" But they do not feel the pain or the shortness of breath on some of the simplest tasks that I do.
My ESA is being reviewed so waiting for the brown envelope with their new decision?

If you are seriously disabled the 100% yes, however, you could end up a lot worse off if your just trying to get more money. 🤔
One reply suggests the website benefitsandwork at a £19 membership cost. I totally agree that this is the best option, they practically talk you through every question and make you aware of how your illness affects you in a way you don't realise yourself. I am just having to help a family member who was born mentally handicapped, who has had DLA all his life, they are stopping his entitlement to DLA and making him totally start from scratch and apply for PIP, he has been in receipt of severe disability allowance since birth which is a separate thing but it's paid by the DWP, and yet they are making him apply for PIP and taking his DLA off him. He will be 60 this year, and he can't read,write,add up, and he relies on others for all his every day needs.
Tread carefully, think about it long and hard, but do yes the website, I don't know what we would do without it.
Did they ask you to come to a face to face assesement? That's what we dread, there's no one to take him he can't go out alone, and his only fMily member has PD and is to ill.

allofatremor no I had an assessment at home cos of my social anxiety. I have emailed my/this query to benefitsandwork and waiting on a reply. I'm certainly not doing anything without support from either them or the advocate for disabled people along side with my housing solutions lass. I'm terrible at wording stuff an can forget key information wether good/bad and have to be prompted to remember to answer everything on my worse day.so my solutions lady filled out my blue badge application with me else I doubt I'd have got my badge at all if I did it myself!!!!
Seek the help of someone who knows benefits law. The law requires 50% of time in a particular state not your worst day. This what I understand. So if you can get to a car to drive then you must have the ability to travel more than 200 metres with an aid.
You're getting a bit muddled; walking & travelling are separate on the mobility component.
There's the walking part which is how far you can walk with an aid and then the planning & undertaking a journey part.
Travelling in a car does not constitute travelling with an aid!!
