I suffer sciatic lower lumbar region back pain, two herniated discs and a pinched nerve, I was gradually dealing with this, it would be bad on getting up but after exercise would ease as day went on. As I managed to get my head around the pain. I then went out saturday just gone to local park concert as was gradually feeling better, the porta loos were at least ten feet on the slippery muddy grass away from the walk way pavement and it had been raining all day, As I needed the toilet I walked onto the grass to use the porta loo and from within five minutes of being at the park only, I slipped over in the muddy grass my leg went behind me fell onto my back on the bad side and twisted my ankle and further caused more pain to my back, my doctor said I have set myself back weeks now from that fall. I do feel the council are negligent with health and safety here. I am now suffering all the time since the fall. I am on more pain killers again and this seems to be a part of my life now. Was told to rest my ankle which is not to bad but I cant put my ankle up as then my back pain is to severe to deal with, I have to move around a lot to ease the sciatica. So I cant win. Rest ankle but move around to ease the sciatica. Obviously I wish I had never gone out now it was doomed from the start. But I cant change it. My husband thinks I could have bruised it to. As I already had an xray and mri scan recently before the accident the nhs wont give me another due to costs. I know what everyone is going through and know how hard it is to deal with constant pain when we get so little support either from the medical profession... At times I literally want to rip my spine right out. any replies welcome....thanks for reading...

Sciatica is dreadful! It sounds like you are having a hard time. I'm here if you would like a chat. I'm glad that I took the plunge yesterday, this site seems to be full of caring people who are going through similar or worse conditions than us. It is very humbling.

I hope you have a better day today, don't know your name?

Take care, Fran x

If you can see a massage therapist that may help. The indication is that you could have over contracted several muscles when you fell. Over contracted muscles often generate pain until they are uncontracted manually.

I can only leave it to you to investigate this.

I found some gentle exercises and tiny bit of swimming in a swimming pool helped significantly. Got exercises from Internet. Take care NOT to overdo it though. Temptation is high but you will suffer for it afterwards!!

Hi and thanks to everyone so far who replied, I assumed I had bruised my already bad bad on the fall. NHS wont do another Xray due to costs. I take diclofenic, co codemel and tramodel which seem to help. Am hoping it will start to ease as go on holiday in a weeks time as well. I really need a holiday with everything have been through lately. I will have to take lots of pain killers on holiday with me. Unfortunately we cant leave the pain behind when we go away and its coming along to.

Sorry to read about your fall. I have similar pain to you, constant sciatica!!! I take Lyrica and Tramadol so manage it. Doctors just keep giving pills out rather than treat in other ways. I'm always made to feel that I'm a bit of a hypochondriac when I see my doctor. Surgeons say they can't operate now as I've had it too long and unless I lose all sensation or start wetting myself I just have to live with it! The swimming is a good idea, when I'm in the water it's relaxing. Hope you have a good holiday and find some relief.

Same situation I have a prolapsed disk, luckily only one. I'd really suggest Electo Acupuncture, which I have now like every 2 weeks. It really does help reduce my pain levels & keep me off very strong painkillers, which just make feel ill rather than killing pain. I had a root nerve injection which really helps too. I have also been advised to avoid surgery, just let my body heal.
