Hi all, has anyone here has PRF for severe spinal nerve damage by any chance? I had the procedure done on 8th June and I am still in a bad way. I haven't been in work since and my doctor is refusing to send me back.
I just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience please?

I'm wiped out, no energy. Pale as a ghost. Pain is very high and has spread to my good side. My back is quite swollen and I just feel all round rotten.
I'm on oxy on top of my other meds to ease the pain but it's not really helping much. The thing is, I'm quite good with pain normally. I've had several procedures done including operations and I bounce back fairly quickly.
This has flattened me though. The doctor is running tests at the min but I was just interested to see if my symptoms are normal..... ish. Everything on the net says I should be ok, just like u said. I don't know what to do 😔
Hi again, I really don't think this is a 'normal' response - certainly not desired response anyway! It is of course always possible to aggravate nerves... Have you tried a muscle relaxant alongside pain meds like baclofen? Might help calm things down until doctor gets a handle on this ... Make sure he tests your B12 and iron levels as you feel so wiped out... Best wishes
i havent had the experience but i know where those machines can be bought and i was infact thinking of buying one myself. what did you think of the procedure, did it help. seeminly these machines do a lot of differnet things and many athletes use them. love grace xoxo
Thanks Grace. I've heard about the sports people using them but maybe the one I had is different? You couldn't do it yourself, it's done in theatre by a surgeon. You are put on oxygen and hooked up to all the vitals etc.
Are you perhaps thinking of a tens machine?
oh i think what your talking about is different, my mistake. the one im talking about does have a tens machine in it. it cost well over a thousnd pounds but didnt have the oxygen mask its called wireless pro i will put a link to it and see if it works

Oh yes, that's completely different Grace. The PRF for nerve damage is a procedure that can only be done in theatre. Probes and needles are inserted into the damaged area of the nerve and electrical pulses are run through it in an attempt to dampen the signal of the nerve, thus reducing the amount of pain signals going to the brain. My next step is a Spinal Cord Stimulator but I'm putting that off as long as I can xxx

And the worst part is they keep you awake for it! They wouldn't even sedate me when I asked as I knew it would be painful. But it turned out to be not too bad. I had the steroid injections done and they were far worse.

did you have a look at the one i put a link to, i was thinking of getting this for pain, it seems to do an awful lot of things that could help with pain and rebuilding muscle.iv just read your post above and your having a hard time im sorry to hear that. i hope things get sorted out for you and maybe get a muscle relaxant as boozbird said. maybe this machine might help other people, im asking my boyfriend if he could understand how to work it for me as i couldnt understand how to do it. i do hope you get some relief i always wish there was more i could do i suppose a lot of us feel helpless as all we can do is offer kind words, i do care, love grace xoxoxo
Grace you are so very kind. Thank you. It's absolutely ok. I'm well able to manage and I very rarely give in. I think that's why this is frustrating me so much! Lol!
My problem is purely nerve damage and it's pretty bad. I've tried everything, from conventional medicine to non-conventional and I get very little relief from anything I'm afraid. My l5 s1 disc was snapped by a chiropracticor and the piece of disc shredded the nerve for 5 months before they removed it. It did a nice job on me! But I'm actually ok.

im glad that your okay you must be a very strong person to be able to put up with that kind of pain and to have it made worse by a chiropractor is very upsetting, they charge a fortune as it is for a few minutes of snapping bones, i went to one a few times and it cost me a fortune for nothing as far as im concerned, iv got an inversion table that i used to lie on and i would lie upside down as i do get pains in my spine and when i touch the bottom of my spine there are lots of nodules there and pain, and i get sciatica, that table used to be a great help. but iv not been using it for a good few years maybe if i get well after the operation im getting on wednesday i will get it out again. love grace xoxoxo

It's ok to be nervous. I was the same before my own operation. Just remember,you'll be fast asleep for it and when u wake, it will all be over. You'll do fine xxx

I had a similar procedure some year ago called RFA along with nerve blocks and it worked really well for me, my pain went from an 8 to a three. It lasted for several years. I am hoping to have the same thing done again soon.

Thanks dunkdl. I actually requested the RFA but they insisted on doing the prf first. The RFA seems a long more effective and the results last so much longer. If the prf works for me, I'll only get a few months max out of it.

If you don't mind me asking grace, after your procedure where you sore straight away or did it get worse over time since you had prf done?
hi anna iv not had a prf dont it was an ERCP it was painful while i was getting it done and less painful after it was done although it was still painful as i developed pancreatitis i never mind anyone asking me a question ann, so always feel free. love grace.xoxoxo

Yes I had it done on the 3rd of June this year , it was amazing and worked for me, I have not had any analgesic medication since, but I also had two bilatral steroid epidurals and had a caudal steroid epidural . All put together i have just been amazed . Totally pain free 😃

I've had several of these procedures and the results are really variable, sometimes work really well for quite a few months and sometimes not at all. I sometimes took up to 3 weeks for everything to settle down and to feel the benefits so dont despair just yet.

You have no idea how glad I am to hear this Curly girl as I thought I was losing my mind! I usually recover very quickly but this has me knocked. Then today, my husband and myself were talking and we realised what happened.
I had just finished very intense exams and my job is equally as intense. Doing that while in pain left me running on fumes. I live in ireland. I work in the south and was travelling to Dublin every 3 weeks for a full week of intense studying. I was then coming back to a highly pressurised full time job on Monday morning , and most importantly, I'm a mother. All of the people with me who also did the exams either got sick from the stress and went out of work or went on holiday for 2 weeks or both.
Instead, i went from exams with no break, back into a hectic job and then straight into the prf treatment. I'd say I just literally hit the wall and slide down. My body just stopped and said 'no more'. I had nothing left to give to try and recover.
It's all making sense now. Sometimes you get so caught up in everything, you miss what's right in front of you.
Wow Deeda77, that sounds like a really punishing schedule. I guess you are feeling worse because you stopped and all the stress and exhaustion caught up with you.
I hope, that by now things are starting to settle and that you are still resting sufficiently

Hi, I have had Radio Frequency in my back, facet injections and an epidural in my coccyx all in one go, had these in January. My leg pains are almost pain free, but my back pain started to come back after come month. Then I had an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon in May he told me I had had so many injections that he wanted to find out where I was getting pain relief from if he was going to fuse my back. Within 10 days he injected L5/ L4 . The pain started to come back after about one month but not as bad as before, leg pain fine. I have been like this for 3 years I have DDD. Maybe this may help? I think you had a different method as I only had my back numbed but it hurt when the injections go in, when your used to pain a little more is nothing if you get some pain relief.
