I'm having hip and back pain suddenly (3 days now). What could be the reason for this, and should I worry and see my doctor?

Hello there,

I'm having pain in my hips and back when I sit down, lay, or bend. I only get this pain if I do those things, the only time I can have comfort is when I stand up. After a few minutes of standing or walking it does start to hurt again. I'm 24 years old and healthy as far as I'm told at the last doctors visit. I do have a cyst on one of my ovaries, which does cause me pain when I get my period/cramps, I just finished my period on Monday. I dunno if that's a helpful tip.

Please help me, I haven't been able to sleep a full night through, because I have this awful pain disturbing me. It's been three days now since it first occurred, and I am unsure as to whether or not I should let it settle with hopes that it goes away, or get it looked at by my doctor.

P.S. my boyfriend thinks that I am being ridiculous complaining about it.. So, I don't know how to go about it??

It seems that you suffering from a trap nerve, this can trigger all sorts' of pain and discomfort, see your doctor without delay. Ask him for a referral to a pain clinic. Best of luck.

Hi yes get to u GP as soon as possible it sounds like u my have a trapped nerve so u need to get u GP to send u to a pain specialist he will send u for some tests to find out what the problem is and also give u some meds to help with the pain.

Tell u boyfriend that it's not ridiculous and that it's very painful to have a trapped nerve if it was him with the trapped nerve he would be crying like a baby I did when I had two trapped nerves in my neck.

Best wishes hope u get it sorted out

It could be polycistic ovaries, lesions, a trapped nerve or a multitude of other things. What is important is the pain and it is real so go to your doctor as soon as possible. Pain killers only mask the pain so you need to know why you have the pain in the 1st place. Hope this helps & keep us posted. Kx

If you are worried always see the GP. They can have a whole list of things to check. Worrying about will increase stress which will tighten muscles which can continue the pain and discomfort. Having the appropriate reassurances from the GP that there is nothing seriously wrong will remove worry stress and relax muscles which will reduce pain and discomfort.

Muscle spasms can occur anywhere and create pain in places nowhere near the muscle spasm site. This is referred to as referred pain. Lack of sleep will cause loss of proper muscle control with the result that the pain could be also caused by the lack of sleep.

Unfortunately the medical profession have very little understanding of pain caused by faulty muscle behaviour. Fixing problems of pain caused by faulty muscle behaviour has been the province of chiropractors, Alexander teachers, Yoga teachers, reflexologists and massage therapists to name a few disciplines.

It is worth having a look at a harder mattress. To sleep on a harder mattress you have to have more relaxed muscles which in turn will help reduce the pain and discomfort.

Hope this helps.
