Ever since I started on the slow release morphine I've been feeling sick to a degree but now its got worse as I've put the dose up. I have anti sickness pills but they make me very sleepy and lightheaded. So I'm spending so much time in bed . I got up at 6.30 but was hit by waves of nausea and could only go and lie down again. I eat iin between bouts but cannot cook.
Will this settle or is morphine not for me ? I get very sick if I ever have a morphine shot.
My physical misery seems to increase day by day

Have you spoken to your Dr? There are other anti sickness meds you might be able to try. Nausea (and constipation) seem to be the most common side effects with Morphine. Have a look at this link though I'm not sure if this is what you are taking.
I honestly don' the know, from what I read on here everyone is different. Maybe have a chat with a pharmacist, they might be able to suggest something for the sickness.
Thanks Jayne. Its ridiculous. I'm in pain but I don't care up my dose. I feel sick most of the day except an hour or two before my evening dose. If I have to take Oramorph at be time I feel sick during the night.
Well that's my advice. Don't just stop taking it, there are horrendous withdrawal symptoms. But ask your GP about changing it to Oxycodone, slow release, I'm sure you'll see a big difference.
I have been on long term drug therapy with slow release (SR) morphine.
In the beginning it caused me some grief with nausea. Not as much as you but it would sit me flat on my butt for a bit until the nausea subsided.
We have a product call Gravol Natural which contains ginger and willow bark for the nausea and it is non-drowsy. It was my best friend in the beginning. and many times since.
When I travel in the USA I take Sea-Band Anti-Nausea Ginger Gum. Works wonders.
I don't know your location (I'm new on the forum and haven't figured that out yet) and I don't know your dosage. Mind is 90mg per day .
And of course check with your pharmacist where you got your morphine. They are a fountain of info as they study for years all about drugs and the side effect/remedies.
I have the 7 day patch and I feel sick its not nice having your head in the loo but it does help the pain
I too have the 7 day patch which does make me feel sick sometimes. It is definately not as bad as taking the morphine tablets which I really could not get on with.
DeeJames: I get to feeling nauseated myself & my Dr. put me on Zophran, actually the generic form. It doesn't make me sleepy or dizzy. I also, read about ginger in crystallized form & went to the grocery where they have bulk items where you scoop it out of a glass container yourself. I got some & it's more tasty if you make a tea out of it with sugar in it or not depending on your tastes. The generic form of Zophran is much cheaper. I would talk this over with the Dr. about the way these pills for nausea make you feel. That is what she or he is there for & ask if this is natural to feel like this when taking morphine. Maybe she could lighten the dose or she might have to change the medication altogether. Hope this helps!
Sorry Dan, but yes, it is. It may not be physically called Morphine, but it is a derivative, just like Oxycodone is. Anything with higher than Paracetamol has a small dose of it in, go further and it's cocaine!
Do not get clever with me. Listening to a doctor, in a hospice, telling me and my terminally ill father just what the medication he was on was told me what I know.
All opioids are derivatives of cocaine in some way. Anything with codeine is... 😕
I am not arguing back and forth with you. speaking to people like that gets you nowhere.
Sorry Jayne but morphine is obtained from the opium poppy and cocaine from the coco plant. Very different species. Cocaine gives lots of energy , morphine sedates. I think you must be thinking of something else
