High BP for over a week. also changed meds.

Hi all, I have changed from co codamol 30/500 to a single tablet of 60mg codeine and two x 500mg paracetomol four times a day. Not related to the meds , I was found to have bp of over 200/98 The doc made me wait 20 mins and redid it and it was the same. He has asked me to come back this Tuesday when the blood results will be back and we can see what is happening. I have been checking it all week ( with a monitor someone gave me) and it is constantly high and I have been very dizzy and headaches. I am wondering if it was advisable to leave me for a week with it so high? I shall report back after I see the doctor, Ann

Hello Ann

Bob here

Your BP is far to high should now more than 140, then they start looking at it, and asking questions, when I reached 60s my bloods were 98/140 and was put on statins etc. now my BP is 78/110 I think I know it is low as I have my checks every month, did they check cholestrol.

Needs looking at have you been worked up, depressed or working too hard.??

All the best

Hi Bob, they have taken blood to check cholesterol. I think that is what it is going to be, my lifestyle has changed a lot due to chronic pain in the last year, hardly any exercise and meals that I can cook quick in the microwave and oven, not enough fresh veg. Also I saw the specialist last week and he has gone from not being interested in an operation to sending me for a CT scan and then to see a surgeon who will talk me through having an op. this is a big change in his opinion from a year ago. Could be the stress of that info! I am really scared about having an op, my home situation is not good for me to be totally out of action for up to three months recuperating. My husband has some medical problems of his own to deal with. Anyway thanks for your reply, I have done BP tonight and it is still 168/92 . Which is high, I am relaxing as much as I can and will see what the GP says on Tuesday. I will report back. Have a good evening, Ann

Hi, the name of the op hasn't been mentioned yet. I am waiting for the appointment for the scan which can take up to five weeks. Then I will be sent to the surgeon and will get all the info from him. Of course, having the internet I have been googling arthritis in the spine etc, my specialist said I have severe degeneration of the spine caused by arthritis. He also told me it was called spondylithesis. As soon as a name is given, I am off to research it. I need to know what is going on and any way I can do something to relieve the pain and what my outlook for the future is. I am only 57 and am very frustrated being so inactive. Most of the time I am upbeat but for instance on Sunday, I put a rinse in my hair and was leaning over the bath in tears! I know I need to sort that little job out. It just seems that every day there is something else I cannot do. So irritating. This forum is a great help as I can see so many of us are in the same boat, also lots of encouragement and at time light heartedness! Sorry I have rambled on, Tara a bit, Ann

This means your vertebra are out of alignment. It can be mild and called grade 1 or go up to I think 4 ? Sometimes it doesn't need any treatment, sometimes it does. I am on the list for neurosurgery to have two vertebra fused, C3/4. I am scared stiff but my symptoms have been so horrible that I am going to grit my teeth and get on with it. I have lumbar spine problems as well and my life has been on hold for nearly three years now. I'm still living with hope. Best wishes.

I wish you all the best. I think we get to a point where we will do anything to try and sort the problems out. I am like you and am just going to go for it! If there is any chance I can get out of this kind of life, pain and limited mobility, I will take a chance, good luck, Ann
