Fentanyl 25mcg

Hello I was put on 25mcg Fentanyl and it did work but for only 1 week and now I have pain my gp says hes unwilling to give me a higher dose as it takes time to take full effect, but I thought it should take effect within 12 hrs is this right??

Medications can in some instances take up to 3/4 weeks to give full support, remember you are only suppressing pain

you will not cure it. The doctor is the one who will tell you how long this medication takes as all pain medications are selective and change for each patient that suffers pain. Chronic pain is different for every one of us.

On the instructions that come with the patches you are told to keep taking other pain relief for 24hrs. David is on 75 with an extra 25 if needed. he says the extra only takes 6 hrs to kick in. But that's cos it is already in his system.

So you should feel some benefit from your 25 patch within 2 days.

But I agree with Bob in that everyone is different.

My experience of Fentanyl patches were not good at all... they worked well... for the first 3 days out of the 7 they should do, I just seemed to "eat" it up, and of course the flaming things are a total nuisance as they drop off if you so much as look at them harshly! They may work better on someone near death who is bed-ridden and doesn't shower or move around much!

Doesn't say your experience will be the same, but a they are one of the quicker acting slow-release forms of Opiate, (if you get my drift) so expect results relatively sooner rather than later.

Whatever long acting type pain relief you are on, then especially for short term dose adjustment and to a lesser extent for long term management then extra pain relief (tablets or whatever, I had Oxynorm) for "breakthrough pain" would be available for this sort of situation, it's clear that not everyone gets this sort of approach though

Hi,Iv been on patches for 5 years now I was on 225 yes you heard it right 225 but now on 162!!! they Bob is quite right its about 6 hours for me too but that's because Iv been on them for a long time.As for the person above Picton im not sure they were on the same thing as you only use them for three days and the patches I use stick fine although they did try to put me on a cheaper one and that didn't stick.Hope that helps.
