Anyone have an remedies for gout?

I have been suffering with extreme pain in the joint of my big toe for over a week now. I have done the research and it appears to be gout. Has anyone any info they can share with me?

I shall be seeing the GP next week if it is still troubling me. Thanks Ann

Unless there is a reason such as previous stomach and bowel problems or medications which interact, such as lithium, the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications are usually first-line treatment, then, depending on other blood test results may be added by your GP.

Cider vinager. My dad has gout & he swears by it. I know that if the gout isnt flaring it wont show up on tests that you have it. Good luck, hope you get sorted.x

your gp should give you a drug like allopurinol, be careful if he gives you an anti-inflammatory drug, some of these are extremely toxic.I was put on high dose Indomethacin, I now have 3rd stage renal failure as a direct result of toxic drugs

Hi,

My husband has got gout and has had for a number of years.

He manages his symptoms through diet and taking Allupirinol daily.

He avoids red meat, red wine and beer and only suffers the occasional twinge.

Gout can be dangerous so do your research, experiment with your diet and visit your GP in the early days when the symptoms are at their worst otherwise the blood tests come back negative ( this happened to my son who had to return and repeat his bloods). I have 2 sons and they both suffer from gout.

Take care and the best of luck

Sue

Get to GP ASAP as this pain only gets worse and you have to wait for the results to come back and then for the treatment to start working. If you try to reduce the gout before the blood test it may not be diagnosed until you have a really severe attack as mentioned above. The GP will supply a week long medication if it is gout and then may put you on Allurpurinol for prevention.

Then as said above diet is a big factor but not all as I rarely eat the stuff mentioned and do not drink I was also a womwn who had not gone through the menopause so did not meet the criteria for gout at all.

Do you suffer from any other autoimmune disorders as I was only diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and under active thyroid after being diagnosed with Gout.

Thanks for the info. I have chronic pain caused by spondylolyithesis (sp?) and degenerative arthritis in the spine. The only meds I am on are co codamol 30/500. 4 times a day. Am not getting much pain relief from these but am so wary of going on to something stronger due to side effects. Last thing on earth I need right now is gout!

I do understand that you have to see the GP while it is flaring up, I will try in the morning and see if I can get in at the doctors. My God, it is really a painful condition. Trying to walk and take the pressure off my foot only puts my whole body out of line and adds to the arthritis pain. Must say I have had a week of it!!! Ann

Hi Ann my dad had gout and the best thing he did was bath his feet in warm luke water with a bit of garlic and he also rubbed his feet with Tiger Balm which you can buy from pound land they call it Oriental Balm or any Health Food Shops such has Holland and Barratts. My other suggestion would be to use Deep Relief Ibuprofen and Levomenthol which I use for my muscles and joints because I suffer badly from pain because I have SLE Lupus and Fibroymalgia and I am always in pain especially my neck, head. back, feet and shoulders and this really works for me and I was told about this from my friend and they were absolutely right it does help me with my pain and the good news is I can get this prescription on the NHS from my doctor. I know 'old time' remedies may sound weird but I am in my 40s and I try my late father's remedies and they sometimes work so you could give it a try but if not the best thing to do is make an appointment with your Doctor has soon as possible and get the correct medication which will help you. I hope you do not suffer with the pain for too long take care. Lillian :)
