Don't want to put you on a downer...

I had that procedure done in Dec 2011, lets say it made me worse. I now have problems with my nerves even more now than I did before.

Now, you go for the procedure, as it's something that works for some more than others, I must off been in the other category.

You go for it, I really do wish you luck.

\\\\\\\\\david has been having them for 20 years with a few rests every year or so.

With the exception of one which was outsourced to a private health clinic and was a total disaster - they have been excellent.

Sometimes they can last a few months sometimes less but always the pain relief has been worth the short term pain of having one.

Be positive and look forward to afterwards!

hi i had one in nov last year to get me over xmas till my op in feb.

it got rid of my pins and needels and after a couple of weeks helped with the pain.

so don't worry. it didn't hurt at all. so good luck x

I had facet joint injections three years ago and they were moderately effective. They gave a short-acting anaesthetic (propofol), and I had no problems. I've also had radio-frequency ablation, which helped for quite a time and I'm having this repeated soon. I have to be fully awake for that!

albee in reply to missrat

Hi Missrat, you sound like you have gone through all that I may be looking forward to, are these up and coming procedures painful? what is a radio frequency ablation? I hope it goes well. Please keep us updated. Have a great BH weekend.

Kind regards

Alan

All the best! I had a course before my decompression operation which did not did not help me, however, I have met many people over the last 3 years who have had very positive results from the injections so I hope they work for you.

I am due to have facet joint injections again soon and hopeful that, as I have had an operation since the first course, they will work to reduce the pain.... If not I can always consider spinal cord stimulation or subcutaneous nerve stimulation; there are options.

Hope all goes well and you can walk the dog again soon!

Thanks Stampede, hope all goes well for you, what these other two procedures you mention and what problems do they help. When you get time I'd be interested to know.

Thanks mate

Hope you are really successful. I have had limited success after 3 lots of injections. I would be interested to know from all if they reckon that frequent injections leads to further deterioation of the nerve ends. I am assured by experts that it does not but I am not so sure.

Hi albee, I have been having facet injections for three years now,had my spine done again last Friday and I have four injections at a time, yes it is a bit of a painful thing to have done but I benefit so much for having it , your doctor has probably told you that they don't work for every one and when you have the injection done you will be told the benefits will take about a week before you start feeling better but as we are all different mine start working sometimes the same day and also the time they last varies the longest mine have lasted is between four and five months and you are only allowed to have two sessions a year because of the cost to the NHS I do hope they work for you and wish you all the luck. triciaj

Hiya, I had these first done in Oct 2010, they were great and I had a whole year pain free, never took a single pain killer in all that time.

Had them done again in Feb of this year and they've not made any difference, so it really is hit or miss!

I wish you the best of luck, I know how frustrating it is not being able to get out and about x

Whatever they are I wish you luck with them albeex

Hi Leroy they are joints at the lower spine and the injections I believe are Steroid injection directly into the joint.

All the best mate

Hi albee and everyone,

I am down for facet joint & nerve root injections on 6th June, so am interested in all the replies to your question. I too have a dog who is longing for a good, regular walk but haven't been able to do this since last October. She has put on weight but I have lost a stone as I couldn't eat much when the pain was at its worst! Feel so sorry for her, she does love it when a friend comes round occasionally to let Abbie run with her dog

It does seem that this procedure is not successful for everyone but thanks all of you for your encouragement to albee and all you who are suffering so much with many different problems - feel like giving you all a great big hug and, and hope Joe will have a better day (and nights) soon - take care, all of you, chriswinkle.

Hi again everyone thanks once again for all your support, it's just a pity that The DWP can't give support for people in pain. I have just had a phone call telling me that they are stopping my £72 pw as some pen pusher at the DWP thinks I am fit to go to work ?????????

sulimbi profile image

ask them for a medical, they did it for me,and the doctor was horrified when he saw my hand excema

albee in reply to sulimbi

Ok thanks Sulimbi I'll wait till I get my letter, I am afraid I let the Pen Pusher in no doubt what I thought of him, but I am sure he will forgive me don't you Ha Ha there ya go. But thanks so much Sulimbi I just hope I get a nice lady like you. All the best Alan

For those whose facet joint injections weren't effective, or where it is inadvisable to have repeated steroid injections it is worth asking your Pain Clinic about radio-frequency ablation (microwave treatment).

Someone told me the variation in response was down to variations in the doc doing the injections. The first ones I had got me going again but I had one set from a different chap that left me worse off by a mile! Has anyone had transforaminal injections? Brilliant the first time and has had great lasting benefit but subsequent ones didn't add extra gain. :( they get the nerve as it exits the cord at each spinal level. Best wishes for your injections.

Thanks Boozybird I'll let you know how I get on. Oh! got my dates mixed up its next Wednesday the 15th for my jabs.

Hi Boozybird, Sorry its been a while but I have been away, Injections were fine but so far no change, How are you?

Boozybird profile image
Boozybird in reply to albee

Sorry to hear that. I haven't bothered to hv any more coz there was no further benefit and I find it stressful having a bloody great needle in my back with only local until they 'find' the nerve to inject. As soon as they get the nerve I nearly shoot off the table! Horrible sensation. It makes me feel really vulnerable. What's you're next plan for your back? Have u been able to at least get back out with the dog? Not that this is any weather other than for ducks! ;)

Don't worry albee I had mine done before Christmas, they did help for a while but lately things are not so good, especially trying to sleep with sciatica. The procedure is completely painless and afterwards, but take it easy for a day or two. Good luck, I think the new antibiotic treatments sound like they might help me, but I will have to wait for the NHS to take it up.

albee profile image
albee in reply to geewii

Thanks geewii, I hope things work out for you, I haven't heard about the antibiotic treatments. What are they?

geewii profile image
geewii in reply to albee

If you google back pain and antibiotics it should come up with this new discovery that there is some sort of infection in the discs of some people which causes them to degenerate. I read about it in the Daily Mail but it is also in the Telegraph as well. It would be wonderful if three months of antibiotics could cure this awful pain for good. Hope all goes well with you, I also suffer from fibromyalgia and thought that was the cause of all my pain, but I have found I have this spine issue as well x

Hi Albee is it tomorrow you have your facet injections. I had mine on Saturday so here's wishing you all the best. Take care. X
