Can you lose the efficiency of bisphosphonates with time? Can the body get used to them after many uses and then not getting help from them?

This question is for the administration.

I have been using bisphosphonates orally every 4 years ( that would be 5-6 times during 20 years) and after that 5 years ago I had one Aclasta infusion. Can the body get used to them so they lose their efficiency? So in total I would say 7 times in 27 years.

If you are having bisphosphonates for Paget's disease and nothing else (i.e. it's also given for osteoporosis), then you only usually need this treatment 'as required'. This means if symptoms such as pain are due directly to Paget's then it often helps, but if the pain is due to complications such as the enlarged bone pressing on a nerve or osteoarthritis then it's unlikely to help. If you have had a zoledronic acid infusion, it stays in the bone and can work for many years.
