breast cancer second opinion

Hi all

my friend has breast cancer and wants to get a 2nd opinion. Is there a site like ours that she could go on to get some advice?

I think there are a lot of breast cancer support groups in local hospitals. It's worth googling breast cancer support group for your area. This might be a good place to start to investigate the value of a second opinion. As I understand from another post on the site each of us is entitled to ask for a second opinion so your friend could also go to the oncology team who deal with her case and ask for a referral.

Hope this works. It would be interesting to hear how successful she is.

There is a site called breast cancer buddies, I think. There is also a chat option on the Macmillan/ breast cancer site, where patients can get advice from others who have been through it. Hope she can get the support she deserves

The Breast Cancer Care site is a good first stop. There are two ways of getting a second opinion, firstly if you ask your oncologist s/he will arrange it and usually that means sending you to a friendly colleague. Secondly,if you do your own research you can go to your gp and ask to see an oncologist of your own choosing, but this is only guaranteed if you have PHI or are able to pay the costs of a consultation. However when you have cancer most gps will do everything they can to help.
