Hello ladies, just another quick question. Has anyone received radiotherapy as well as chemo for the treatment of ovarian cancer? This was mentioned to me as a possibility when I first saw my oncologist. Many thanks, Lisa x

Hi Lisa,

Dear Lisa

I wasn't able to have radiotherapy because the tumours that remained after debulking and hysterectomy were scattered too deep in the abdomen and too widespread. It wasn't an option that time but as they appeared to have disappeared after chemotherapy I've been assured that if/when the tumours return, depending on their position and spread, that radiotherapy can be used very effectively.

I think if I were offered both I'd go for it. Hope this is helpful.

love and best wishes. Annie xxx

Hi Lisa

I was told it was possible due to where it was, though it hasn't been discussed since I have heard that you can only have radiotherapy once every 10 years on the same site. I dont know how true this is, but its worth checking so you know all he facts before main any decisions

Hope this is useful

Love Chris

Hi Lisa,

I was told that my last tumour was too near other vital organs for radio therapy but they are holding it in reserve for future use as the last chemo with cisplatin did not reduce the tumour.

I gather it is used in some cases.

Dear Lisa

Radiotherapy is not very often used for ovarian cancer nowadays unless there is one specific tumour which the radiotherapy can be targeted at. The main reason is that ovarian cancer tends to be a cancer that respeonds to chemotherapy and a large area of abdomen would need to be targeted to be effective which could cause side effects to various organs

Hope that expalins things but if you want to discuss things further do give Ovacome a ring

Best Wishes

Ruth

Thank you very much for all your replies. I was told by my oncologist that I may need radiotherapy after chemo butt I was confused as all my cancer was removed during my surgery so I wondered where and what they would aim it at?? another oncologist told me I may need out because my cancer was a very rare one,a carcinsarcoma. Many thanks again Lisa xx
