Treatment not long over and now I have to go back on chemo again.

3 months after treatment ended (surgery and 8 chemos) cancer in left axilla and 2 chest nodes and CA 125 up from 100 at end of treatment to 600 now. Have to embark on next chemo in around 6 weeks. Feeling a bit gloomy. Has anyone else been in a similar position?

Carrie,

I haven't been in the same position, but wanted to say Hi, and biggest of hugs!

I'm sure there are others who will have positive experience to share with you.

I just have my love and best wishes,

Isadora. xx

Hi there,

I am in the same position. Finished chemo in May then ca125 has risen over the last few months to 750.

I start my next chemo in November. I was devastated that it had come back so soon but then I read on a forum about a lady who had the same happen but she reckoned that the first chemo had not finished it's job and that the second one was a mop up. She then went into remission and has been for the last 6 months.

I spent a week at the penny brohn centre in Bristol (I have just come back). They help you understand your feelings and get you in tune with your body and diet. Diet and exercise is a very big part of cancer which several of the ladies on here can tell you about.

I feel in someways positive about the next chemo. I am still able to work part time during it - I had to give up first time around. I have lots of bits and pieces I want to do while I am not working which I usually find hard to get done not having the time.

I feel more in control of my future and positive that this time around my remission will be longer.

Keep positive and we can go through this together. Please contact me if you want to chat.

Like you my Mum only had a 3 month break before having to start again. Her first round was Carboplatin and we thought had worked well, but the oncologist said because she did not get 6 months or more they class Carboplatin as not effective for her. She had one round of Taxol,2nd round she had a severe reaction so that was stopped and she is now on Cealyx, just read on another post this is in short supply, as in the US but called Doxil over there. She was told there are other drugs available. I do hope they sort you out soon, Mum had a rise in CA125 along with symptoms, that is why she started treatment again. If you have no symptoms they may just monitor you, as they say they treat the symptoms not numbers.

Take care

Sue

Hi Carrie,

Sorry to hear of your worry and increase in cancer marker. What you are experiencing with more treatment is not uncommon. I started my chemo for late stage ovarian in Dec 2006 and in that time have only had about 8 months break in treatment. I am now on maintenance treatment and have been without a break for almost 3 and 1/2 years.. Most people are luckier than I am, so think POSITIVELY .
