Hi everyone

I had my third Avastin infusion yesterday and took my first 300mg dose of olaparib this morning. By lunchtime I had developed a hot red itchy sunburn rash on my head neck and back. Temp 37.4C. Rang cancer helpline who advised to take anti histamine. Has anyone else experienced anything like this.

Not sure if I should take second olaparib dose tonight.

If that had happened to me, I would wait to speak to the specialist nurse or someone in oncology tomorrow (monday) before taking another dose, but then I'm always very, very cautious about possible allergic reactions, having had a few in my time. Did you go in the sun the same day? Because you're not supposed to if you take a PARP, not sure about Avastin...

Thanks MiriamI was admitted to MAU for steroids and antihistamine which seems to be calming the reaction down. I haven’t been in the sun at all so it’s some sort of allergic reaction. Will speak to CNS tomorrow about what to do about PARP. Might need a lower dose to start. Thanks for replying.

HelloWhen I started Niraparib in 2018 I wasn’t warned about possible sun reactions. I definitely had a reaction to the sun with burning itchy face and hands . I was on holiday but I stopped taking the drug until I spoke to my Oncologist. He said to carry on which I did. To this day 4 years later I cannot sit in the sun for more than a few mins even with factor 50 ,

I now wear a hat and I usually wear long sleeves. You get used to it , I’m red haired with freckled skin so never really sat in it for long anyway. Photosensitivity is a recognised side effect of Parps.

The photosensitivity reaction is really useful to know as I havent been warned about that.

I'm slow to reply. I had a similar rash around my face when i started Olaparib. I took anti-histamines for a few days (and kept taking Olaparib). It settled really quickly. Hope you've got on ok on the weekend. x
