Problems with tongue and other issues

Dear All, I intermittently post but keep up to date with all the posts . I have been on weekly taxol but with various issues particularly related to peripheral neuropathy had to have the taxol dose reduced and have had really crippling fatique.Scan in Sept after first 8 doses showed a good response and my CA125 went to normal.

About 8 weeks ago started with a headache told the chemo nurse after discussion with the registrar they decided nothing to do with chemo told to go to GO which I got in touch with who prescribed antiflammatory medication..Which as long I took the them kept the headache at bay. THE GP thought the headache was muscular in origin.Anyway about 3 weeks the headache drastically improved.but other symptoms have come into play. I am having problems with my tongue which are really weird, I have lost some movement on the right side of my tongue and I appear have some atrophy on the right ridge. Also have developed nausea and some dizziness Saw consultant who ordered a cat scan of my brain which was normal so as ordered a MRI to double check. I am convincing myself now that I have brain secondaries.Any thoughtS.

Sorry to hear of your side effects. Taxols can be devastating to some. Having been on them a few times I believe and the Onc confirms - you can become resistant to them. Some Oncs will overdose as they do not take weight, BP and bloods before each dose. These measurements are essential for working out the dose. It is perfectly natural to be very fatigued on chemo as your blood cells are reduced to stop the bad cancer cells from growing. Watch your BP as many who get up at night start having falls or being unsteady even fall in daylight. You do not need hospital treatment for other things when on Chemo!

Talk to your Oncologist and stay on forums like this for encouragement and hearing how others went through similar experiences.

There is another possible cause for those symptoms; hope they are giving you an MRI for your neck as well because what you describe in respect of your tongue I have experienced along with other random mouth/jaw/facial sensations, like numbness, tingling or pain, along with change of taste on the affected side. I don't expect they are looking at your neck because they're checking to make sure there's nothing untoward on the brain in terms of cancer, but I know my symptoms are due to my neck because I've had them on and off for over 10 years, well before cancer. Its just you mention headache which was helped by anti-flammatories and your doctor thought the origin was muscular - which likely means the neck, and problems with the neck/shoulders can cause headaches.

If the MRI of your brain shows nothing untoward (and fingers crossed it won't) ask for an MRI of your neck - try the oncologist first, but if no luck there, ask the GP, although with Covid around, if they don't suspect anything life threatening, you may have to wait quite a while. Even if you have your neck scanned, they may not find anything terribly dramatic - in my case, it showed osteo arthritis in the vertebrae with a 'mild' compression at C5/C6 with 4 slipped discs up the cervical spine on one side... I just have to manage it as best I can, until it affects my motor nerves rather than just the sensory nerves (which I hope it never does...)

Fingers crossed for you....

Might be worth asking about trigeminal neuralgia.
