I can not find any statistics. How long is the average survival rate with only surgery (no debulking just removal) and no chemo?

Hi, think you’ve done the same as most of us , going with the shock & flow of clinical appointments until we have time to ourselves to stop & think then all the questions come flooding in that we wish we had asked. Please write them all down then phone up your nurse, believe me she will be only too glad to hear from you.Everybodies situation is different so only she & your oncologist can advise you. Hope you get the answers you need. Big hugs xDee

Hello LadyRM

Thank you for your post. I'm replying to let you know that we ask that members not post survival statistics on this forum. This is so that anyone who doesn't want that information doesn't see it accidentally. As Dee says, the treating team can answer any questions .

You can find some statistics about ovarian cancer at cancerresearchuk.org/health..., although many of them are out of date.

We would ask that anyone replying to this post not mention survival statistics.

Remember that no statistic can predict what will happen for an individual person.

If there's something that we can help with, or if it would help to talk anything through, please get in touch with our Support Service, which is open Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm on 0800 008 6054 or 07503 682 311 or at support@ovacome.org.uk. If you need support outside these times, you can call Macmillan Cancer Support on 0808 808 00 00.

Best wishes

Julia (Ovacome Support)

I don't think anyone can give you a precise answer to this. I hope you'll defeat any stats that you'll read about.

Each cancer is different. Best to check with your oncologist/team and also get a second opinion.

When my mum was diagnosed, we were told the ‘statistics’. Thing is, every person’s cancer is different so stats are not necessarily a reliable source of information anyway! I wish you all the best xx

Stage 3c means its spread from the original site, as far as I'm aware, so it depends where its spread to and how far it's got. I've always been a bit confused as to the difference between C and B in terms of staging (I'm Stage 4b). Even with knowing that, no one will be able to give you a definite figure, except probably to say without debulking, it will be less - how much less or how much overall time , well, ovarian cancer is a tricksy one and somewhat variable. It's a bit like asking how long is a piece of string, but talk to your Oncologist, they should at least be able to give you some ballpark statistics because they've seen the scans, although not everything is visible on scans, and any figures they give you are only a guide; sometimes people go on longer than anticipated.

I have clear cell stage 3c so not a true comparison. However I had very successful surgery but chemo failed completely so effectively I didn’t have any. By my end of chemo scan 8 months later the cancer had grown back comprehensively in the abdomen and had also spread to the liver where it hadn’t been before. I started my trial a year after surgery and my total targeted tumours amounted to 13.6 cm with multiple non-target tumours splashed around . Chemo often doesn’t work for clear cell but I believe it usually does work for high grade serous. If you haven’t tried conventional treatment you often don’t qualify for trials.

My wife had high head serious stage 3c. Bearing in mind the moderators comment, I would say this....which always stuck in my mind. A Professor at the Marsden once told us that you could have identical twins, diagnosed at the same time with the same grade and the same symptoms. Have identical treatment plans....one could die on day one and could live forever. In other words nobody can actually predict what might happen, what works for one might not for another, and of course vice versa. However, good luck in whatever course you take...

My heart goes out to you. Get your tumor cells sequenced by Foundation One if you can. It helps to identify treatments that will or will not work for you based upon your specific tumor’s genes. And remember that YOU are not a statistic! Courage!

This is for my MIL who refuses to let any of us attend her appointments. We do not think she will tolerate chemo so we just want her to ask her doctor about the statistical variances in care options.

I chose not to have a mastectomy with my stage 3 breast cancer because statistics showed a very small difference. I understand statistics and probability and hot off my own regime of hormonal treatments wanting a better quality of life.

I was just looking for an article or direction of where to find some numbers since I haven’t found any. I’ll ask my own oncologist when I see him tomorrow!
