Disappointed

Feeling a bit down from my telephone consultation this afternoon after my second line first cycle of carboplatin/caelyx. Bloods all good and ready for round 2 on Monday. Problem being I just had to ask about my Ca125 and it's only dropped by 30 from 285 to 255 was expecting bigger drop. Has anyone else had this experience on this combination? Don't think I'm going to ask next time it's wrecked my weekend . Kath xx

Kath, I hope that this doesn’t ruin your weekend. It is going in the right direction.....

I have to say though, that I’m exactly the same I have no patience and want everything yesterday🤔

Try and stay upbeat.

Let us know how you go on Monday .

Sending hugs and positive vibes.

Joy x

I think there’s at least one combination where it goes up before going down! Don’t stress... it is falling and you don’t know, it could plummet next time....trust the process if you can and concentrate on your bit which is to eat well, sleep plenty and take a little exercise if you can xx

As Lyndy has said its going in the right direction, when I was on Carbo/caelyx my CA125 shot up after the first infusion, after that it decreased every time. Good luck x

Don’t stress, mine didn’t do anything until number 3 so a drop is good x

Don’t worry that’s a good start & going the right way.First infusion is a shock to the body then things settle & im sure it will drop further but remember the ca125 is not everything you are on track & that’s what’s important. Keep strong you will get there xx

Hi Kath, Sometimes our expectations are too high and then we are disappointed when they are not reached, you actually had a drop there which is the direction you want to go. Take care and hope it continues to drop. Sue xx

As everyone says, your going in the right direction and it's only your first infusion. I am also on carbo/caelyx second line treatment and I wasn't told my ca125 until my third consultation. I was shocked to find out it had shot up from just within normal readings to a 100 and something. Can't remember actual number, I was a bit stunned. Wish I hadn't asked now but I am trying to keep positive. So as everyone has said, you are going on the right direction - it's early days and it may well plummet the next time. Stay well. 🤗 Jackie xx

Yes. Had same experience after first infusion. By 3rd infusion CA plunged! Give the chemo a chance to work. It's not as rapid as carbo/taxol.

Sorry you’re disappointed but do try to embrace the fact it’s gone down, albeit not a huge figure but it is heading in the right direction, it may possibly be a slow and steady change as you progress through the treatment. I think you’ll be better placed to analyse the progress after your next CA125 figure comes in. For some ladies the CA125 isn’t a good diagnostic tool or indicator.

Big hugs and love, stay safe lovely ❤️Xx Jane

Hi. Don’t worry about it! On this treatment CA125 often goes up for a couple of months before coming down. Give it some time!

I have read from many ladies here that Caelyx can cause your numbers to ride temporarily before they lower. So I think your drop is a good sign. Give it time. You're only on round 2.. hugs!
