Niraparib very fast pulse rate

At the moment I seem to have lots of questions and need for advice.Have been on Niraparib since mid Nov main side effect high blood pressure and fast pulse rate. Put on tablets to reduce blood pressure and dose reduced to 200ms. NO reduced but still a little high but still have a racing pulse. Anyone been in similar position.

Worried they reduce the dose.

Any advice so gratefully received.

Can you call your team? I did have it once and then they found my bloods had crashed and I needed a transfusion. This is NOT medical advice, only my experience! x

Yes, same here. I was very aware of heart pounding, especially after exertion, plus I noticed I was losing some hair! I was quite nervous about having a blood transfusion, but it was absolutely fine.

Wishing you all the very best x

Other than high blood pressure do you also have headaches, nose bleeds, blurred or double vision or shortness of breath? Then I'll suggest you to contact your doctor immediately maybe he/she can suggest some medication to deal with the side effects. Your doctor can also reduce the dosage if required so it is really important to consult with your doctor.

Here are some of self care tips while taking Niraparib :

try to avoid crowds or people with colds, and report fever or any other signs of infection immediately to your health care provider.

- Wash your hands often.

- To reduce nausea, take anti-nausea medications as prescribed by your doctor, and eat small, frequent meals. Try taking Niraparib at bedtime.

- Avoid sun exposure.

- Maintain good nutrition.

- Remain active as you are able. Gentle exercise is encouraged such as a daily walk.

- Get plenty of rest.

Best wishes!

Thanks for your response, I hope you'll get well soon. Keep sharing your journey with us.

Good Morning Chris. I started Niraparib 300 on Feb 27 2020.

First week ok. 2nd week Nirapabib platelets plummeted to 50 so Niraparib stopped. Blood test March 16 platelets down to 9. Blood transfusion same night. Back up to 49. Weekly appointment deferred so no blood tests since. Probably a phone appointment this week and hoping for blood tests one way or another in a few days time and maybe start again in near future and reducing dose but no promises. Good luck with your blood tests today. Are you having them in the hospital? Let us know how you go on.

Love Angela xx

Morning Chris, the very word Scarborough has warmed my heart. We go to Bridlington in our motorhome several times a year. Scarborough is wonderful but difficult With a motorhome. Back to your reply. Thank you. I will push for a hospital visit when they ring tomorrow. I really need these blood tests and more treatment ASAP.

We live in Derbyshire but it only takes about half an hour to get into Sheffield. The oncologists seem to worry more about our immune system and the virus than the cancer. I don’t know the answer to that. Getting really nervous about the phone call tomorrow, silly isn’t it! I’ll let everyone know what happens🤞 Keep safe and well

Lots of love
