Carboplatin & back pain

Hi folks just wanting to know if any of you have experienced back pain during infusion?

This happened once on first line treatment and they delayed the infusion for 20 mins and restarted and all was well.

This time round l thought it was happening on my first treatment but stopped after a few moments. Yesterday l went for my 6th infusion and again the stabbing pains started at the end of infusion and became very strong indeed. The doctor decided to delay treatment and give me an iv infusion of paracetamol before going on with the Gem which l get at the same session. I see my consultant on Friday and will discuss, just wanted to know if anyone else has had this experience. Many thanks.

Hi. I had the worst back pain during reactions to taxol in frontline. They gave me morphine in my iv. I know Carbo can cause severe allergic reactions but don’t know the symptoms. I hope it doesn’t happen again.

Thank you Delia. Good to know others have had something similar whilst on a chemo drug.

I’m so sorry to hear your horrible experience during chemo. I hope they sort it out for the future.

I didn’t react while infusions were happening but a pre-existing back problem became much worse following chemotherapy. I don’t of course know if this was the cause but I’ve certainly not ever been as well or as strong as I was beforehand and the back pain is crippling.

Not sure if this helps - I’m sorry - but it would be interesting to know how many of us have experienced back problems during and post carboplatin.

It is one of the allergic reactions unfortunately. I had hives, redness everywhere, including my palms and bottom of feet. Luckily my back was not affected. I am also waiting on consult for future infusions - I have 3 left. I understand that they have many options to try to alleviate, but not positive what the might be. Are you now done with treatment? If so, how did they go? I hope smoothly!

Thank you for your response. Yes my chemo finished early July. They overcame my reaction to the carbo by taking longer with the infusion and a whole stack of premeds (cortisone and antihistamine) to stop another reaction. I've now been put on a trial with Olaparib so fingers crossed. Good luck with your remaining sessions, your so close to the end.
