I only went for tablets lol

Hi all, in the space of 3 weeks I have gone from asking for tablets to reduce my ++ heavy period to being diagnosed with a 7x6x5 midline pelvis mass and a Ca125 of 141. I also have a 2cm fibroid which I didn't know was there. Scans show it's external to uterus (both ovaries seen) and has partial internal septations. I dont know if its simple or complex. There is a query whether it's ovarian or Mesenteric (bowel)in nature. I've been fast tracked and have Consultant Gynae appt this week, where I gather I will have a CT or MRI. I've googled lots on both ( as a midwife, I needed to know as much as possible & can be rational)

I know my Ca markers are could be high due to the fibroid and the cyst has no vascularities so am thinking positively 're Ca. I also know the Mesenteric Cysts are very rare, but very likely non-Ca, which again is a positive. I know I'll be having surgery regardless of outcome, so fully prepared for that.

I suppose id like to know if anyone else had any experience of this? What are recovery times etc and if it was Ca, how do you tell your kids? That's actually freaking me more than surgery!

Well that certainly was an unwelcome surprise!

Sadly, it’s kind of a familiar story.

I thought I had a lung infection that went septic when I was hospitalised and received my unwelcome surprise.

But it is refreshing to hear that you have armed yourself with knowledge.

Knowledge is power and you will need plenty of it.

Telling our loved ones is difficult for all of us.

So if it is cancer, you just have to tell them with the caveat that treatment, hard as it is, will work.

I have to admit that I played down the staging.

I had been told it was stage 4 at first, but I was downgraded to stage 3 later, but I had already told my daughter it was stage 3.

Also, I was very Very poorly at the time, and could not really talk or even text at the time and assigned my daughter the task of telling the rest if the family.

She was so politic, she became the point of communication for an extended family spread across the USA and England, giving everyone daily updates!

Family turned out to be unbelievably supportive and important to us, as did our close friends and neighbours, living in our city centre neighbourhood in Bath.

Hello!

I found out on Thursday that I have a 10cm by 4cm mass in my pelvis.

They’re not sure where mine is coming from either.

My shows no vascularity either but at this stage that’s no comfort to me and I’ve hit the panic button. I’m holding it together for my son but behind closed doors I am a mess.

Good luck with your appointment. I was also fast tracked but the first available to me is 18th Feb. It’s a long and worrying wait. X

Sorry to hear that you are in this position... my friend and I both went through this at the same time- mine was cancer- hers wasn’t... so don’t jump to a conclusion yet. Even if you do have a diagnosis of cancer you can take your time. I found it was important to get my head around it before trying to tell others. xx

Hi Lyndy, yes I agree, I feel as armed with knowledge as I can be for Thursday. I actually didn't know what to say to a group of close friends so I told one who is perhaps my go to buddy and she told them for me. I've got over the initial shock so will face the news and see what lies ahead. Sorry to hear you were dealt the bad card. I wish you well Lyndy. Lisa x

I'm 70. I had a Ca125 of over 3000 in 2011

Have been battling cancer. Actually since I was 40 as I also had a a different kind 30 years ago.

There are so many therapies. Trust your oncologist and keep us posted. You will be ok!

Crikey Ingrid, a Ca125 of over 3000! Wow, that must have been a shock!

Having a medical background, I do trust my Drs and they are based in the same hospital I worked in, so know I'm in good hands. It's hard being the patient though lol. Thank you for your message, I wish you well. Lisa x
