Incisions Hernia and Travel

Hi All, I don,t often post here but read the posts regularly and respond when I feel I have something to say. Just a quick potted history I was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer 14 years ago at Stage 1 treated with surgery and chemo made a great recovery and got on with life. 2015 diagnosed with Primary peritoneal cancer, surgery and chemo got me in full remission . Had reoccurence in March 2017 6 mouths of Carboplatin and Caelyx got me into full remission again. Unfortunatelty in Sept this year MRI showed 2 not very enlarged lymph nodes so at the moment I am on watch and wait , although my oncologist has told me I might need treatment again in December. At the moment what is concerning me is my incisions hernia, most if the time it does not bother me but on several occasions it has become very hard and painful. 6 WEEKS ago it was so bad I ended up in A and E I was in agony and I thought the hernia had strangulatef but without any intervention after a couple of hours the pain suddenly subsided and the hernia became soft again. After this episode I was referred to a surgeon who said with my history I WAS unsuitable for surgery and in unfortunately my oncologist agreed.So here are my questions as anyone elsebeen in a similar situation and what dud you do. MY husband AND I would love to do some more travelling but I must say I am rather frightened of it happening again, as anyone been brave enough to travel? LAstly as anyone had the hernia repaired?.Love Chris

Well I haven't got a hernia yet but managed to go on a cruise while on my clinical trial. I took out insurance with Insure With and went on a 2-week cruise to the Canaries. I reckon if you don't go too far and have insurance you should be ok.

Hi Chris, I can really relate to your post! I have four incisional hernias which behave themselves most of the time, but can be a bit uncomfortable. My grandchildren live in Los Angeles and I really worry about visiting them in case things go pear-shaped. I’m 71 with a couple of other health problems, so insurance is still pretty expensive. I do travel a lot within Europe and on my own, which might not be the brightest idea, but I’d hate to give it up and I don’t take out insurance. So far (two years from diagnosis), so good. I turned down a hernia repair (after a six month wait to get to the top of the list) after hearing so much bad publicity about the mesh and ‘talking’ to the lovely people on this site. I went abroad with an incisional hernia &I was fortunate to have no trouble with it while away. I did develop a strangulated hernia at home &needed urgent surgery. I had no trouble with the mesh. Di
