Before coming to UK, she wants to know if how is the hospital in terms of ovarian cancer treatment? She is so young ,and she is willing to pay all her saving to get the best treatment of the world, is RMS the best option for her in UK? Thanks a lot in advance !

I would say either Royal Marsden or The Christie in Manchester. I can only comment on Prof Gordon Jayson at the Christie as that is where I have my treatment under him . He is a world renown researcher and clinician in the field of ovarian cancer. If you google him you will get more information.

I’m not sure who the lead ovarian cancer clinician is at the Marsden but I’m sure some of the other ladies can help x

Wishing your friend good luck in her quest and what a shame this disease is going to cost her all her savings in top of everything else! I count my blessings every day that I live where I do xx

Big hugs

Bev xx

Hi

I’m under The Royal Marsden and just about to start chemo with them privately.

They have been excellent so far, much better than my previous oncologist.

Hope everything goes well xx 🌻

I’m a private patient at the RM too 😊 Are you at Sutton or Chelsea? Vicki x

Ah, Sutton! Our paths won’t cross 🙁 That’s a shame!

I’d agree that The Royal Marsden in London or The Christie in Manchester are the places to consider.

The specialists at the Royal Marsden are Professor Gore or Dr Banerjee. There’s a surgeon too, but I don’t have any experience of him and I don’t know what his name is for your friend to research - sorry.

Oh no, that is a shame. I’m travelling from Newbury to Chelsea so it’s a bit of a trek. I’m under Prof Gore, he is amazing x

I’ll send you a private message Diane - we may have more in common!

Yes Marsden is good. They will ask for a 600 pound deposit for a consultation ( which cost me about £300 in the end). They will want all notes, scan reports etc in English sent in advance. I was a patient at the Marsden then came to France, then went back for a consultation and then continued treatment in France. Chemo is very expensive, they wanted a £60,000 deposit. France might be cheaper. Nicola

Agree. She is hesitating between US and Uk , for language reason . Uk is less expensive than US( M D Andersen)

Hello. I am at RM in Chelsea under Dr Baneerjee. Appt with her brief but she is very knowledgable approachable lady. Would strongly reccomend. I was diagnosed with stage 1A mixed origin epithelial OC chemo since March completed end of June. Latter privately under Bupa reviews on NHS now. If you want more info please pm me. Best wishes. X

There are a number of private clinics in London such as The London Clinic offering second opinions with consultants working at prestigious hospitals such as UCLH, which I understand to be one of the top three ovarian cancer hospitals in the UK. I don’t think a second opinion is too expensive about £250 - £500 but private treatment is excessively so. As Nicola says, France may be a good option and the Nordic countries have excellent stats for ovarian cancer.

Has your friend considered a look at getting a second opinion in Australia? Good stats and closer to home.

Should have asked, has your friend had her surgery yet?

I was treated by Prof Martin Gore at the Royal Marsden in 2016, and felt to be in the best hands possible. It's Europe's largest cancer center, so there is a good amount of experience / expertise (also with the rarer types of OC) plus access to clinical trials to be had. Now living in Germany again, I still contact the Royal Marsden for a second opinion before making any major treatment decisions.

Other ladies have good experiences with the Christies in Manchester (or other hospitals) too, but I can't comment on those.

I wish her the best of luck with her treatment. Maus

Over in the states my sister has had a great experience with Rutgers cancer institute of New Jersey. They are cutting edge and have direct access to clinical trials through national cancer institute.

Wishing your friend all the best. Nancy

I have had two consultations with Dr Banerjee at Royal Marsden - my friend has been treated by her and is now cancer free so highly recommended her. She is top Dr and straight talking so sure she would help your friend decide. Alternatively there are hospitals in Germany that are supposed to be really good. I have ended up I. Manchester ( by accident) treated by prof Jayson who is fantastic.

Not sure what costs would be privately but she should email all hospitals to get an idea - they would be willing to share an idea of costs I’m sure.

Hi I too live abroad Canada and had a second option at the Marsden. I have seen Dr Banerjee and as a surgeon Dr John Butler both were great! Highly recommend them!
