Medical cannabis what do you think ladies ?

lorraine71-Australia profile image

Hi Ladies, I hope I am not posting a subject I should not be doing, my youngest daughter is very keen on me trying and has been researching medical cannabis here . She feels it will help with my fatigue and appetite.

I had a call to day to have a interview about it from a supplier, my doctor told me he has patients on it and he can give me a letter to say I'm on medical cannabis.

Just would like to know if any one is on it or tried it Thank you Take care everyone love Lorraine xx

Hi Lovely Lorraine

Medical cannabis is perfectly legal in NSW as follows ....

"NSW: Legal for use by adults with end-of-life illnesses, from July 2016: Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Amendment Regulation 2016. (See NSW Government’s Centre for Medicinal Cannabis Research and Innovation for details.)"

So it is not an inappropriate question at all!

I reckon give it a try and if it gives you the munchies, all well and good. I'm afraid I don't have any direct experience to pass on, but keep us posted.

Take care, Dawn xxx

G'day my love. You go for it girl. I do prefer the real thing and I don't mind admitting it. I grew up in London in the 60s. It was obligatory. I bake liitle cakes and pop them in the freezer for a rainy day. Takes away my MS pain if I have any and gives me a whole round sod-off-cancer feeling. Hubby says I always go sensible on a bun so there is a bad side. I don't want you hanging around dodgy bars trying to score but just get some to try. Real or modified doesn't matter. Well it does in a way. At this stage of our lives and the state we are in, who cares anyway? Lots of love xxxxx

Are you getting the grass or the resin? I generally have the resin as it preserves longer but I have to grind it down into a powder to put it into the buns. I have a bong for the grass - my boys bought if for me many years ago (yes, true) - but I don't like smoking it through the bong. Even going through the ice water, the smoke burns. I'm not a smoker anyway so buns are my best option. Just a few words of caution if you are going down that route. There are many many types of cannabis. Each one has a different level of chemical - or not - and each one can have a different effect. Normally, the little packet you buy from a friend of a friend is a mixture or just plain old grown-in-a-mate's-loft plant. I used to grow my own years ago, until our lurcher ate my 5ft high plant one day, all of it! My "supplier" - I love that - is personal and it's ordered and sent by post. Once I had the packet opened and inspected by customs but they still sent it on. That's the French for you. Don't give a shit.

I suggest you have a Google and get to know the various kinds and decide which one you would prefer. It is a science but don't be scared. If you have had it before you'll be ok. Many people will shout shock, horror at me but they can sod off. I'm almost 70 years old and can make up my own mind thank you. I don't need some goodie two shoes telling me I'm a junkie etc. I'm dying of cancer - eventually - so it's going to be as painless and as gentle as possible. Besides, I rarely have a bun these days. But they are there if I want one. I've also got MS, Lymes and a brain tumour - not to mention my dodgy metal knee - to contend with so leave me alone to live my life how I want to. Sorry about the rant...... :-)

In my very humble opinion, making medicinal cannabis takes out the compounds which I believe are necessary for it to do it's job. Many studies have shown that plain old hemp oil - which in effect you get - does little to alleviate the pain of illness. Hemp makes rope. There's a lesson there. I wouldn't bother with legal oil. I prefer to do it my way if I have to. However, the little boy who obviously benefits so much from it is a shining example of why it should be legal. I'd like to see all the pushers sod off too. Make it legal, everyone is happy. Or move to Amsterdam.

Once you have your little packet you can decide how to use it. But, a word of caution. Do not mix alcohol with it. If you make buns you will only need a small sprinkle in each one. Don't go mad with it. Have your bun and wait. After about 20 mins you should start to feel your whole body start to relax. Any pain will start to subside and you'll have a nice glowy feeling inside. Your sight and hearing will intensify - great for me as my deafness eases up. You'll see colours brighter, hear music clearer, birdsong will be beautiful. You'll giggle a bit probably - maybe too much which will indicate too much in the bun. If you drink alcohol now you may be sick. Don't risk it. Everyone has a different tolerance of the weed so you may only need one bun while others will need more to get the desired effect. Most important. You will not be able to tell a lie and your inhibitions may go so if you have any skeletons in the cupboard they may come out, if you are asked. You will also not be able to go out and mug old people or rob a bank. You'll feel too happy and relaxed. After half an hour or so the effect will have reached it's max just about and you'll stay like that for some time. This will be munchy time. Have something nice to hand to nibble on. Chocolate is the usual munch. You can do anything you want to do but you will probably be in that can't-be-arsed mood. You will know exactly what you are saying and doing. At no time will you be "out of it" and not in control of your actions. It's nothing like being drunk and waking up next day wondering how the hell you got home. Hubby says this is when I get sensible and start talking coherently and making some sense. Normally I'm a blathering idiot then. You will sleep the best sleep you have had for ages and if you do mess about at bedtime, it will be wonderful. Guaranteed!! You'll not have a hangover next day either.

Some people, not often, have an adverse reaction and become a demon. Usually the mild mannered, say nothing kind become moody and argumentative. I've only ever seen one person do this. These should never have cannabis again. Some become slightly paranoid. They also should avoid it again. It's not common but it does happen. If you get an adverse reaction then just drink plenty of orange juice - vit C - and relax and it will pass. One of my dearest friends pestered me for some and I reluctantly agreed, knowing she is a bit of an air head. I told her - no alcohol. I got a call in the middle of the night from her husband saying she was terrified to close her eyes because she knew she was going to die. I went round and there she was staring into space trying not to blink. She had had her bun and thought nothing had happened - this is common - so had a gin an tonic, and then another. I drowned her in orange juice, told her she wasn't going to die and went home to bed. The next day she phoned me. "Allo", she said "I didn't die then!". "Oh, but you nearly did", I said. She never got the joke.

So there you go. Lots to think about but lots to research too. I would never be without my buns as my MS comes on quite suddenly and sometimes the pain is awful and if I get in quick enough I can often avoid a full blown attack. My old GP once said he would go to court for me if I ever got caught. Bless him. I'd better get on with the day. Breakfast will be here soon and I've got a Holby Shitty Epilogue to think about. Sorry if I've rambled on and admin may even remove my post but I think we should all share our experiences, good or bad, otherwise we are left floundering in the dark - and scared.

All my love Kryssy xxxxxxxxxx

Thank you love for your very informative reply. I'm getting the oil my daughter has been researching medical cannabis, I don't think we would know how to get the plant there was a site for the seeds but need to Waite till the plant grows and then with my luck I would be caught growing cannabis.

I know it can be confusing about which one to get I've left it up to my daughter to guide me.I'm having a interview with the supplier on Friday know more then.

I must admit the brownies sound good ,what do you think about the oil ?

I had a good experience with the oil, until I developed pancreatitis and can no longer use it. Meanwhile, my pancreatitis has become chronic, and I can no longer digest food without the prescription pancreatic ensymes, which cost $2,000 per month.

Hi Krissy

Just came across your old post. Sorry to hear what you are going through! Just interested that you bake little cakes and freeze them? I’m so sick of pain and the effects of opiates that I’d like to try cannabis and not keen on smoking, so cakes seem like a good alternative. Is there any chance you could share your recipe with me please? Googling it I see recipes for making canna butter but is that necessary? It seems like a bit of a pain. Hope this finds you relatively well.

We don’t really have it in the UK (yet), but if my doctor were happy to prescribe/recommend it for me, I’d give it a go. If it doesn’t agree with you, you can stop taking it, but if it helps, then you have nothing to lose.

I really hope it brings some relief, Lorraine. Thinking of you often.

Hope it helps with your fatigue and appetite.

I used it for my cancer for two years. I tried oil on its own, oil mixed, smoking weed. It definitely helped at the time and one of my tumours shrank from 21mm to a tiny dot. I stopped earlier this year and have mentally toyed with the idea again. I found smoking most effective but because I’m not a smoker I found the after taste irritating

Prescribed cannabis is a different format but to offer it to you there must be evidence to suggest its beneficial so I would take it

My family lives in the USA and every single family member is using medical marijuana, including my 96 year old mother. She takes it in the form of tasty brownies and it helps her sleep, adds necessary calories and improves her appetite.

My sister, who just survived her second round of breast cancer and had just had a double mastectomy is taking it for the same reasons. It also helps with her pain.

She uses the vape pen as well as the cookies or brownies.

Eating is best once you know you can tolerate it, because the effects last longer.

Hope it works for you,

Hello Lorraine - I read recently that Olivia Newton John has been taking it for 20 years, she battles Breast Cancer, her husband makes a tincture from plants he grows (legal where she is for personal use) I for one, if I ever get to the end of treatment will be investigating. Sadly still illegal here and only available on prescription to children that suffer seizures.

It may or may not cure cancer but if it helps with the horrendous side effects then why not! Go for it. Lyn xx

Morning Lorraine,

All well here at the moment. I go next week for my six monthly (been over a year) check up. Not expecting anything bad from that but you never know. I'm still waiting for the new grandson who doesn't seem to be in any rush to meet the world and is keeping us all on tendered hooks waiting. He was only expected to arrive yesterday but as her last one was early and I didn't get within a mile of my due date we just assumed, wrongly, that he would also be early.

I'm off to my guitar group this morning. The sun is shining but it's started getting colder.

Let us know how you get on with the cannabis. I do hope it makes you feel great.

Take care, Zena xx

Lorraine, I tried desperately to get my hands on some when I was have chemo but no luck! My only advice is to go for it, have heard it helps you relax and all the reports out there are quite positive and hopeful. Think of you often and hope you feeling good. 🌹

Hi, my daughter has been researching this supplier and is very keen for me to try it .it's the cannabis oil, she found a couple of suppliers but feels this one is the best, she found it from a TV interview with a family who needed it for their son.

When you start to go into it it can be quite confusing what to buy I've left it up to her to guide me .

Before cancer never smoked, drinked or pill popped, now with all the junk I've had in the last 4 years a bit of cannabis should be ok.

The supplier rang me to day and we will have a interview Friday, I'll know more then.

I'm feeling better trying to get my strength and appetite up for my second opinion next week ,he may say the same thing as my oncologist but we can always hope.

How are you ?

Take care Lorraine xx💙💙

Hi Lorraine ... that's a coincidence as I've just finished making my first batch of full extract cannabis oil (FECO) & then saw your message!

I'm on a closed FB site called Medicinal Cannabis - Australia. It's very informative (mostly) and all the admin people can help put you in touch with people that can give advice re suppliers (think you have to be careful that you have a reliable source & not somebody charging a lot of money & you're maybe not too sure what you are getting).

Sounds like your daughter knows what she is doing - trust her as it's a bit of a minefield with all the info. There is also the Nimbin Hemp Embassy that can provide lots of info.

I decided I wanted to try FECO which has high levels of CBD & THC which some research suggests can be beneficial in eliminating cancer cells. I don't think it's a panacea for all things, but hey, what have we got to lose? There's a whole protocol on how to take it - start off very tiny amount to get you used to it & eventually build - that's the oil I'm talking about. I'll take it at night couple of hours before bedtime & hopefully sleep it out. And as Kryssy said (I LOVE everything she writes) start off small to see how it affects you, let your body build up a bit of tolerance and then you can take more. I was told with the oil I start with a drop the size of a grain of rice for a few days & then gradually increase.

I've also been taking the last couple of months (after my surgery) what is called a coconut oil extraction - basically cannabis bud in organic coconut oil (I made it) and I use it like a butter spread on a bit of toast about 2hrs before I go to bed & I get a nice sleep (still wake up a few times during the night, but get back to sleep OK). This is fine for this purpose, but everything I've read suggests you need much more concentrate - ie the full extract oil - if you want to take it to hopefully kill cancer cells.

I've been procrastinating (that's my middle name :) ) since I was diagnosed 3+yrs ago about taking the oil as I once (decades ago) had a very unpleasant panic attack after eating brownies (too many - thinking the first one hadn't worked) and didn't want to experience that feeling again. But ... second recurrence ... decided I'm a big enough girl to get over that & take the oil !! Nothing to lose .... and I might even enjoy it! My family have been urging me to take it all this time.

Sorry I've really waffled on ... hope it all goes well & helps with all the things you want it to do. Lots of love .... Ruth xx

Hi Ruth Thank you I found your post very interesting, My daughter has put me on to a supplier who will ring me Friday arfter noon for a interview, I must admit I no nothing about cannabis oil or plant so hope I can understand what he about.

You mentioned that he best one was to make sure it is FECO, also that you have just made your fist batch ,how do you get the plant?

My oncologist has me now on palliative care as she feels that there are no more options,I'm trying to get over this fatigue so that I can go for a second opinion, I have a appointment with a pro at Randwick women's hospital he may say the same thing but can only hope.

I found arfter my oncologist said no more treatment, my head was in a dark place and felt like giving up arfter all the treatments I've had in the last 4 years ,I know I'm not going to a miracle but I've decided to be the best I can .

As I said the cannabis oil is my daughters idea she is very keen I try it I'm a little worried that I'll get the right thing, If you can give me any advice I would appropriate it. I will message me and I give you my email address if if that is ok with you...Thank You Ruth take care hope all is still ok.. lots of love Lorraine xx💙💙

Lucky you, wish it was legal here.CBD oil is legal, you can buy that anywhere in the UK, but it has to be certified free of THC - but its the THC that is most effective in cancer, so that means FECO (full spectrum cannabis oil) or RSO (Rick Simpson Oil - basically FECO). There can be side effects to oils with THC though- I certainly didn't find it gave me the munchies, but it did make me dizzy, which is a pre existing problem for me at times anyway. Unfortunately, it also made me anxious after about 3 weeks, so now I just stick to the legal CBD oil, which certainly seems to reduce my arthritic pain - and its known to reduce inflammation. But I really wish we'd wake up here and get out of this mindset of 'ooh, horrific gateway drug' - I'd love to be able to see a cannabis doctor and find out what the best strain is for my cancer, and which terpenes enhance or reduce the possiblity of anxiety and so on... and get the best one for me. Between the attitudes to cannabis and assisted dying, it feels like we're living in the dark ages in the UK... although the Home Secretary, when he said cannabis oil could be used for serious epilepsy cases in children, also proposed its use for pain and cancer... but that unfortunately does not mean we can all grow our own and extract our own oils, nor see a cannabis specialist. What it probably means is that one of the pharma companies will be expected to develop a synthetic drug which won't even be as effective anyway...

100% give it a go... good luck!

Miriam

lorraine71-Australia in reply to bamboo89

Thank you Miriam, for your reply I don't know much about cannabis, I think it's a grey area here in Australia, There are some doctors that are licensed to prescribe medical cannabis but it's still illegal to grow the plant.

My daughter is the one that has been researching about the oil, my DR did mention he knows of some of his patients who were using it with good results but he did not know where they got it from, when my daughter asked him if he could find out he thought it was funny that I was going to the dark side his words, he knows me well I don't drink or smoke and before cancer I was never one for pill popping, so now arfter all the poison I've had in the last 4 year Whats a little cannabis oil.

I hope you are ok Take care Lorraine xx

bamboo89 profile image

Indeed, what's a little cannabis oil - the only drug I've ever indulged in has been nicotine, I don't even drink alcohol, and I've always avoided medicines as far as has been possible, but if the so called 'light side' isn't doing the job, then the relatively less harmful 'dark side' appears to be absolutely worth a visit! I,too, knew nothing much about cannabis 6 months ago - like everything else, once you start investigating, its always much more complex than it first appears... hence my wish for the ability to consult a proper cannabis doctor,of the sort they have in Holland and parts of the States. Certainly, from what I've discovered, the so called evil and deadly 'drugs' are no more deadly and evil than many medicines and in many cases less so; probably nicotine is far worse, and alcohol certainly is. All that twaddle about addiction to recreational drugs, when the biggest addiction problem in the western world is actually to opiate medicines...those and alcohol cause more deaths than all the recreational drugs put together! Glad your daughter's on the case - its exhausting trying to find out everything and source for yourself when its still illegal. Good luck with it...

I’ve thought about the oil but as others have said the effective one not legal here and I wouldn’t know where to start with obtaining the plant/bundle for making buns! I’m sure compared to half the toxins we’ve had pumped into us over the years it’s comparatively harmless but it’s good that your daughter has done her research and presumably you start with a very small amount to make sure you don’t get any adverse reaction.

It should definitely help with appetite and for me it helps me get to sleep and get through pain episodes as well. Indica is technically more for sleepiness but for me I use a setiva because it helps me get out of my head a bit which helps me sleep. If you are like me and can’t turn off your thoughts it helps.

I would advise though to think of it like a science experiment. Dosing can be tough to figure out in the beginning. Just take a little and record results like how much you used, how you felt at how long after, etc. so that you can figure out the right dosing for you. Good luck!

Hi, Thank you for your reply, I have found a supplier and I'm about to order some,he has suggested I use cannabises oil for a week then add THC oil.

Still a bit apprehensive about taking the, but my daughter is very keen for me to try.

Take care Lorraine xx
