Unbelievable Update

Thank you Ladies for all your comments and amazing support. I was going to have to wait a few weeks for a new appointment so rather than do nothing I have decided to have another chemo session. Hopefully the op will get rescheduled after that. Hope you all have a good weekend Lyn xx

I'm so glad you can have another Chemo session, Lyn. You'll feel much better for doing something while you wait for your op, I'm sure.

Best wishes, Solange 😊

Wow Lyn.. you have truly taken this cancer bull by the horns, going for a little chemo when bored ;) .

Just being silly, sorry. All the best with it and hopefully the op happens soon. Xx. Maus

A few weeks??? I'd ring the surgeons secretary and keep asking for a cancellation. Another chemo sounds Ike a plan though. Xx

in reply to LittleSan

When he rang the surgeon said he was trying to find an anaesthetist, so thought a chemo session would be better than doing nothing. I realise that I have given the surgical team some breathing space but it is also for me, I was terrified of going for the op, and had to dig deep for the courage to get me there, don't think I can do it again just yet, have left the bag packed so will summon the courage by the next appointment. My husband wants me to make a formal complaint to the hospital but I don't see what you gain. Lyn xx

I think making a formal complaint depends on what it is about and what you want to happen as a result.

If its because your op was cancelled I’m not sure it would achieve anything as ops tend to be cancelled for a reason. But if it’s because you are waiting several weeks then it might get you in quicker if you are bothering them a lot (even if not a ‘complaint’ as such). I’m really surprised you have been told it’s a few weeks. Also that they need to find an anaesthetist. Does that mean your surgeon isnt doing any ops currently??? I doubt it.

As I said in my previous reply I only waited a week for my new op date, with an offer of having the op with a different surgeon if I wanted it earlier than that. I was assured that the cancelled op made me a priority.

As it turns out the cancellation was very lucky. In between my cancelled op and my new op date my surgeon went to pick up the plasmajet equipment which made my surgery go a lot better. So that extra week’s wait was much appreciated in retrospect.

I’d be pushing the medical team a bit more as to why you are waiting longer for surgery that you were deemed to be ready for. I’m surprised they can’t even give you a date.

I feel for you with the extra waiting. I was also terrified of the surgery. But it was worth going through. I knew I felt so much better as soon as I woke up afterwards.

My CNS nurse said that you have to wait 4 weeks after chemo before they do the debulking op. Hopefully more chemo will shrink the tumours some more which can only be a good thing, I don't really understand the anaesthetist availability issues, It sounds as if they are all self employed! Oh well it will all be alright in the end and if its not alright then its not the end! Lyn xx

Ah I see. Well that makes more sense, especially if you have found the tumours have shrunk with chemo.

I didnt have chemo pre-surgery as the biopsy was inconclusive.

Good for you Lynn,

It’s always better when you can feel a little more in control of the future.I do believe you should be getting better service than this...keep badgering the consultant’s secretary for a date.

You deserve to have proper support especially after waiting all day.

Fingers and toes 🤞 crossed.

Best wishes,

Clare xx

Good! Doing something positive while being forced to wait is going to help your frame of mind so much! I do hope you get scheduled for your operation soon, but in the meantime blasting the little critters will let them know you have no intention of letting them get away with growing while you wait. Hugs! Jill

Agree with all above! Good for you for doing something and not just waiting--it will help you physically and mentally you will not just be "waiting" so its more productive. Fingers crossed for a surgery date soon. oxox Judy

Surprising that you needed to wait a few weeks for a new appointment given your op was cancelled on the day. I don't understand the reason that your surgeon is waiting for an anaesthetist either. Wasn't this the same surgeon who cancelled your appointment to discuss the results of your scan, as he'd gone on holiday? Whatever, I had four chemo cycles before my op and everything was fine, so good luck.

in reply to January-2016-UK

I suspect that was his secretary's error as she made the appointment for me and either didn't know or had forgotten he was on holiday, I just feel I have been really unlucky. Oh well hopefully the next time it will all go smoothly. I should have suspected something was not quite right when they rang me the day before and changed my admission time, then when we arrived, I got given the gown etc but told not to change just yet but to wait until they had heard what time I was going down. The surgeon did say that they often did 4 cycles and then surgery, did you have two mop up cycles after? Lyn x
