I did the chemo on Monday. Cisplatin and gem. I was being sick which is normal for me at the moment.
Mid afternoon I started vomiting ground coffee vomit. Lots of times. At the end of chemo they said go to A&E.
I’m back in hospital. Endoscopy showed my stomach has basically been shut off by the cancer pushing on it.
I was sick over 40 times.
They’ve put me on fluids and I’ve a tube up my nose sucking out my stomach contents. It’s been there overnight. Uncomfortable. They’re going to start feeding me through my nose today too.
I’m scared ladies. Is this it? Will I or can I recover from this.

I don't know what to say darling as I don't know how poorly you are but I know you feel scared and it's pointless me saying not to. We are all scared, one way or the other. I just want you to be well and will keep thinking hard (I don't pray) and hope that this bad time will pass quickly and you get strong enough to go home and carry on the fight. Sorry you are going through this Suzanne. When I was recently admitted and was thinking similar I spoke to the palliative care team at hospital, it really helped.

Can understand why you’re feeling scared Suzanne but you can and will get through this . Your team have a plan and you are in good hands . Only sorry I’m useless at writing poems otherwise I would write one and send to you . Sending you a big hug and lots of positive vibes . You have been such a strength and support to others and now hope you can feel that love and support coming back to you . Visualise your happy place and focus on one day at a time and before you know it you wil be back home and through this .

Sorry you are in this place - do ask for the palliative care team to be involved as soon as possible as they may have ideas on what would give you a better quality of life in the short term as well as talking through your fears - thinking of you x
Really sorry to read this, Suzanne, you must be feeling so low. My Suzanne was convinced "this is it" when she had her first bowel obstruction in 2015, but she is still here!
She had similar symptoms to you. Very dehydrated, so IV fluids for several days. Ground coffee vomit - yes, it's horrible. She was fed TPN through a tube in her neck. This goes straight into the blood stream so bypasses the stomach - stops you being sick.
I know you were really anxious about the cisplatin. Did you tolerate it OK with no reaction? Are you having your chemo weekly or 3 weekly? [Don't know why, but chemo never seems to be 2 weekly.] Make sure your oncologist knows you are on the ward, as the junior doctors (in our experience) don't know much about this sort of thing.

It's too early for the Cisplatin Gem to have had much of an effect yet, so the treatment you're being given now should help with your awful symptoms and help build up your strength until the chemo starts to work. Like WoodyB says, make sure your oncologist knows you're on the ward.

So sorry to hear that you are having a beastly time of it again. If they can keep you on the fluids and nutrition via your nose, hopefully the stomach will settle down and give the chemo a chance to shrink the tumour. Is it a possibility they can put in a stent to help keep the tumour from squeezing your tummy? Maybe worth asking your oncologist. Sending you much love and hope you are more comfortable soon. Hi Suzanne--so so sorry you are going through such a hard time. I think (no doctor of course) that the chemo should help and they need to sort you out until it takes effect, meaning reduces what is blocking your stomach. You are in good hands and have gotten such good advice above. I would force yourself to speak to the palliative team (meaning, you probably don't want to speak to anyone right now) and to make sure they contact your doctor so he/she knows you are there. I hope you start to feel better soon--please keep us posted--make this your journal for while you are there, hopefully not too long. oxoxoxoxoxxo Judy

When you get some food down you and you start to feel more comfortable you'll start to feel much better. There are ups and downs and you're having a down at the moment but it doesn't mean you'll go down further. Now you've started some treatment you'll climb on up there and be back to yourself before you know it.
I've been thinking of you and sorry you're having all this sickness. To me there's nothing worse. Remember that song, 'the only way is up'.

Hi I am in exactly same position kept in after non stop vomitting Monday.tube in nose to stomach draining bile.they need to starve n rest bowels as cancer shut it down. It will eventually clear it and then you will be started on soft clear food. Don't panic they will get you through it this is my 2nd time. Sadly I may not have as much luck this time around as peritoneal has completely squashed the bowels and CT scan says it's extremely serious...fingers crossed though. Ask lots of questions don't sit in silence...if you hear and feel gurgling in stomach that's a good sign bowels are trying to move things through....need to relax or will tense you up. Good luck relax and let them do the work for you...it's not as awful as it seems especially 1st time round . Good luck stay strong xx

Hi lovely Suzanne, I’m sorry your feeling poorly, the NG tube is uncomfortable but it will do its job, like the others have said make sure your oncology team know where you are in lots of peoples experience the ‘ordinary’ medics don’t always understand the methodology of chemotherapy and the oncology teams so it’s important they liaise. It is seemingly too soon for the chemo to have affected you in this way so it must be the peritoneal tumour causing this, hopefully the chemo will start to shrink it and you can start getting things moving again very soon. I hope you start to feel less rubbish very soon, I’m sorry I can’t offer any good advice but send you as much support as I can and, of course, lots of hugs and love ❤️Xx Jane
Aw poor You what a rotten time you’re having and I’m not surprised you’re scared think we all would be given all you’ve been through recently x
Looking at the positives in this sea of horrible events, a) you managed to get the chemo in and on board to start shrinking those buggers, b) they are still actively trying to make things better as much as a NG tube is yuk, you will get some better nutrition which can only help with everything and c) you’re still determined to not give in to this xx
Hopefully this is a short term thing until your tumours shrink from the chemo and your stomach can start functioning again x
In the meantime, stay focused on getting through this, speak to the palliative care team which I think is an excellent idea and speak to your oncologist not the ghastly inept doctor you had before xx

That's definitely scary, Suzanne.. not to mention being very uncomfortable due to the vomiting and the tube.

Keep strong Suzanne. Ive been in bad places and and moved on from them when i thought it impossible . Cisplatin and gem alone made me very ill and i had other things going on too. 4 weeks in hospital but things did turn around for me. Sending hugs x
Dear Suzanne I can only add my thoughts and love and support... I do not know enough despite being ill with this for a long time - we all hate being scared but sometimes it’s possible to have an honest and encouraging talk with your oncologist - if he/ she is good enough to do this? We are all by your side holding hands for you and wishing you strength and wellness again. 💕
I don’t have any words of advice to offer about this situation, but I hope you’ve had a decent night and are feeling less panicked. I understand how the fear can grip you and it narrows your thinking which makes it even worse.
Really hope that you are able to talk to someone on your ‘team’ who is able to offer you some reassurance.
Never give up hope as we all know how fluid our situation can be.

Just an update for you suzanne333 I just had the oncologist in the hospital have the chat about do not resuscitate and plan for only a couple more months as you may have a heart attack or other failures near the end...so guessing tis routine but she was very tactful ....I'm pissed off I was going to see Paul McCartney in December she said prob not......WELL I AM!! LOL
Best of luck with ya healing I at the moment am still awaiting bowels to move to see If a weekly taxol will be offered to prolong : quality of life........which I have none at moment
....so I'm on watch and wait which im sure ya familiar with the phrase xx

Hugs and prayers from one Suzanne with ovarian cancer to another. I am so sorry to read of your struggles. Do hang in there. I am in Columbus, Ohio, whole I know many of you are in England. I just had my fifth round of Taxol and Carboplatin today. Most of my problems have been with ascites. After my exploratory surgery, one of my incisions opened up so I had to have a stoma bag. They had already drained 7 liters twice before. I have learned so much from this site and have expanded my prayer list to include all of you and special prayers for circumstances such as yours. I know it is hard, but keeping a positive attitude does seem to help. Hugs from Ohio to you.
You poor thing, im so sorry to read this post 😞 I had to have my bowel rested in May and had to have the tube up the nose, most unpleasant but it did the trick. I really hope that things have started to improve for you since you posted. Once they sort the bowel out I'm sure they will resume the chemotherapy and I do hope the dose you had on Monday prior to being poorly has started to help.
