High liver levels from Chemo (FOLFOX)?

Hi,

My wife’s 5th Folfox chemo treatment was pushed back again for the second week in a row.first time it was because her platelets were too low, these are now back to normal, and tumor marker 19-9 has also been normal since surgery. They are now telling us that her liver levels were high, they think it’s from the chemo, but now I’m worried that the cancer is now in her liver. She was diagnosed with stage 1C mucinous Ovarian Cancer, so I would think it would be extremely rare for it to spread there or come reoccurre in her liver with the stage she was diagnosed with. We are waiting for ultra sound results, but just wanted to see if anyone else has problems with liver levels during chemo? Is this common and do you think it’s just from the chemo? Does anyone know if this is something to be concerned about?

Hello,

I didn’t have the same regime as your wife, but my liver struggled with chemo and definitely had some difficulties. The liver is the body’s waste processing plant, so something as toxic as chemo has a possibility of making it feel a bit unhappy.

If you and your wife are really concerned, do ask her CNS or medical team for advice.

Thanks! Sorry to hear about your difficulty. Everything you said makes sense. I’m sure it’s just the chemo, and not cancer related. We are waiting to hear back.

My liver level are well above normal. Had ultrasound and nothing was detected. Still having my chemo and the level is still rising. No one seems too concerned.

Hi moneill

I have replied to you similar post in the “monitoring for mucinous and other” thread.

Let us know how your wife gets on with her treatment and end of treatment scans.

Best wishes

Fay

Hi Moneill. Yes, my liver values have been bad all throughout chemo. Without cancer tumours there. To be fair though, I've always had some wonky liver stats, despite hardly drinking any booze at all. No fair ;).

The med team probably wants to keep an eye on her liver stats throughout treatment. If too low/high, they might recommend adjusting or discontinuing chemo but hopefully she will be able to carry on. I was.

All the best to her and yourself. Maus

I would think it’s possibly just side effects from the chemo, everything we put into our body has to be processed by the liver and kidneys and given that the chemo is so toxic it’s hardly surprising the liver isn’t very happy, I know mine wasn’t during my chemo. I hope she starts to feel a little better soon ❤️Xx a Jane
