Good morning!! My mom has ppc and the surgery was unsuccessful. The way I understood the dr was the cancer was “concrete” and covered all organs that he could not tell where the organs began or ended. He had never seen this .
Only treatment is chemo 1 time every 3 weeks....
Anyone had similar issues?

I cannot offer any experience-based advice on PPC (I have OC and EC) but wanted you to know that you're in empathetic and supportive company on this site. The ladies (and men) here are not only knowledgeable and experienced, but they are compassionate and willing to share openly and honestly about their own journey. I'm sure that as the day goes on you will have many more helpful responses. In the meantime, know that you have our support and that we'll be there with you along your Mom's journey. Hoping she is doing well with all that has happened and hoping she does well with Chemotherapy (once every three weeks is a fairly typical regimen and often tolerable...I had chemo once a week for 18 weeks - not great, but also tolerable) and that it diminishes the cancer. She is fortunate to have your love and support - and now she (and you) have ours.

I don’t have experience with PPC but there is hope. My special person was diagnosed in March 2015 told she’ll live 6 months with chemo, she’s still here to tell the tale! She’s on her 3rd reoccurrence starting line 4 chemo on Wednesday but she’s all in fighting mode so please don’t start thinking it’s the end of the road because so much can still happen xxx

The chemo was pretty effective for me....if it shrinks everything they might reconsider surgery at a later date. Don’t forget you and your Mom can ask for a second opinion and could look for someone who specialises in this type of cancer xx

I have PPC, I had my omentum removed, they could do little about the peritoneal wall as my cancer is all the way through it.
Your mums sounds a bit different with the description of concrete, however I wanted you to know I am 3 1/2 years on, going through 3rd line treatment. It’s never going away but I am living with it and still going on holidays etc.

Sounds very similar to my Mother case, when they took PET scan + laparoscopy for biopsy they know they cannot operate first, so my Mom has to get 3 chemo cycles every 21 days first which took care of her massive ascites and then a ultra sound followed by surgery !
She again was put on 3 more chemo cycles every 21 days for the total frontline treatment. Do not get disappointed ! This is normal processes for this type of cancer and we have no choice but to get thru the hurdles !!

Hi Joyce--when I was diagnosed and had to first have surgery on a metastisis that was near by heart, they said they would look to see if they could remove much of the rest of the cancer. I woke to them saying "too much--no quality of life if we removed what had to be removed so starting with chemo first." When I went for surgery after 3 cycles (9 weeks) of chemo, the surgeon told my family there was practically nothing there to remove. He was actually surprised as he had told me I would have an iliostomy and when I woke, I did not--he said no need. Just hoping to give you and your Mom encouragement that chemo can do a lot pre-surgery when it needs so be done in that order. I ended up NED after the next 9 weeks post-surgery. I was diagnosed with stage 3c High grade serous PPC in 2011 which I was told was inoperable . 8 liters of ascites was removed before 6 sessions of Carboplatin/Taxol . My CA125 was 8000. I responded very well to chemo and by end of treatment was given the good news of NED ( no evidence of disease ) . I remained disease free until 2016 when it recurred in my lymph nodes . This time I was given Carboplatin only which I disputed as someone with a long remission is advised to have Carboplatin/Taxol repeated . It did reduce the swelling but last week I was told the same lymph nodes are increasing again plus I have a lung nodule . I have just completed treatment for a totally unrelated Breast Cancer which was a bit of a double whammy !
I am telling you my story not to be pessimistic but to show the long disease free period I have had and hope to have again. I’m not sure what age your mother is but I am 73 and intend to keep on fighting . I hope to get my treatment plan next week and will take it from there. I do wish your mother all the best . Take care
