Second line chemo “choice”

Here I am back after 22 months disease free. Having enjoyed good health and fun in the interim.

Just had second debulking surgery which has gone really well with only one tumour and no other spread. Feeling well 2 weeks on.

I’m seeing my Onc next week who has suggested that 2nd line chemo will either be 6x every 8 days or 6x every 4 weeks. If I have a choice I’m thinking 4 weekly so I can have some good weeks between, but on the other hand condensing it over a shorter period may be better? Anyone been through the 8 Day regime? Do you feel bad the whole time? Anyone got a thought on 4 weekly regime?

I tolerated 1st line really well. Thanks.

Hiya. Glad you’re feeling so well you sound very upbeat. For my second line I had the 4 weekly carbo/caelyx. I responded well to it and it got me to NED although unfortunately I’m in a recurrence now 8 months later. I tolerated it really well and continued working in between - I used to have a few days off immediately after but I loved having 3 weeks of feeling normal in between.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks for your reply. I'm certainly hoping the onc will allow me 4 weekly so, like you I can have normal times in between. Sorry to hear you're in recurrence and wish you well. What a bastard this disease is! Certainly a roller coaster of highs and lows.

Which chemo is it? Or is it 2 different chemo options?

Hi. I'm new to this site, but I'm starting 2nd line treatment on Monday, 6 x calyx every four weeks, I recurred 12weeks after last chemo in October, they did the watch and wait thing but my marker has shot up so time to start again. I'm really nervous as I've heard the calyx can be harsh. I tolerated the 1st 3 chemo but then after a nine hour op I had sepsis pneumonia and blood clots with the following 3 chemo, they say I am now platinum resistant. Not sure how successful calyx is. Does anyone know.

Hi Fiona. Thank you for your reply. Seems we could be going through this chemo regime together if he agrees to 4 weekly. So sorry to hear about the after effects of your surgery. As if the surgery itself isn't awful enough, you then had complications, poor you. At least you're well enough for chemo now. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to platinum resistant. I wish you well for Monday. X

Hi Gilly, good luck with what ever regime you go with, I'll keep you posted as to how I get on Monday. Reading this site I can't believe how many ladies are on 3rd and 4th line treatments which really gives me hope. I've been at this for a year now and thought I'd be back to normal now but I'm starting to realise that probably this is normal. X

I did Olaparib for the second recurrence. Had a good quality of life during this treatment. the worse side effect was the extreme weakness. Worked well for me for over a year. Good luck, hope you find something that works for you. Some women get three or four years out of Olaparib.
