Good news!!!

As most of you are aware I have been on a roller coaster of a cancer journey. After being dissatisfied with my care at a nationally renowned cancer centre I moved my care to Belgium and went through a nine hour cruelling second debulking. Well ladies, I had my first scan today and I’m very proud to say that I have finally achieved NED status. When I first had the treatment in the Uk, nasties kept showing up on my scans but today was my first clear scan. I can’t thank the professor and his team in Belgium enough and also I want my teal sister and guardian angel to know that without her guidance and support I wouldn’t have achieved the outcome that I did today. Please take away the lessons that I have learnt a) do not blindly believe what your first oncologist says, do your homework and find the leaders in the field of OC, b) always get a second / third opinion before making any medical decisions and c) trust your gut - you will find the correct path for you if you just listen to your inner voice and follow your heart. Who knows how long this will last; hopefully forever, maybe a few months but for now I celebrate because I didn’t settle for avarage; I only had the best and all the pain tears and surgeries have finally paid off. Sending my love and thoughts to all of you xx

That's amazing news, Sarah!

I know you had the surgery in Belgium, but did you end up having any chemo too? Was it in the UK or Belgium?

I'm so thrilled for you.

Vicki xx

No, no chemo. Because they changed my diagnosis from high to low grade they put me on hormone treatment instead. Since July I have been taking anatrazole one pill a day. My tumour is oestrogen positive so this drug stops me producing oestrogen so hopefully the cancer can’t grow back. Stats say that eventually it will stop working but for now that combined with my superb surgeon has achieved the outcome that I so desperately wanted.

I’m now under Christies. My professor there has worked with my professor in Belgium so they are working well together to both take care of me. I really feel like I am in the right hands now.

How are you? Xxx
