Well ladies. I have decided that Carpe Diem is my new motto! I have no control over the future and the whole sh*tty OC/BRCA diagnosis so I'm going for it! I have added to my bucket list and am just embracing opportunities. Spontaneous is the new me!
Suffice to say, so far I have given up work (thought I'd really miss it as I loved it, but really don't!), been to Menorca, started Pilates, meditation, watercolour classes, walk my neighbours dog, have been to a classical music/wine event with Oz Clark, a talk by an RHS judge and a comedy theatre show last week and oh yes, have just got back from a last minute whizz to Venice. I have (hopefully) attached a photo taken from our lunch table. Hubby and I booked on Wednesday and flew out Friday morning leaving the 15 year old with relatives (Venice not his thing, he preferred the promise of a sunny swimming pool next year.). I've always wanted to go and it was fab! Bucket list tick.
Not bad for four months post chemo eh? Next on the list are a gin tasting event, indoor skydiving (sounds like a giggle!) and I'm debating between Iceland or Pompeii next year. (There MUST be a cheap deal somewhere!)
Hopefully you are all managing to not let the b*stard get you down and are grabbing life by the horns too. Onward and upward I say!

Awesome awesome awesome well done you on grabbing the proverbial by the horns, Venice looks amazing and somewhere we’re looking to go to next year. I just love it that you’ve thrown caution to the wind and living your life to the full, as we all know there are no guarantees in this life so each day is important. I too sacked work just over a year ago in my case and thought I’d really miss it but I really don’t and apart from not knowing what day it is I’ve had no difficulty in adjusting to being unemployed😉. You are right it has to be onwards and upwards if we are at all able, ‘illegitimi non carborundum’ 😊. Big hugs keep up the good work ❤️Xx Jane
You should go! If you do, try the Vino Vino restaurant to the left side of the theatre Teatro La Fenice (San Marco) - great food and very reasonable prices. x
You must do Pompeii and then Iceland. Fire and ice! Just like those adverts for Cointreau years ago with the to die for French accent. I think the adverts were quite a long time ago so apologies if you’re not old enough to remember them.

How are you finding Pilates? I gave up as I kept wobbling on my silly feet and was worried the wig might fall off. I’d like to go back, I think.
I feel the same way as you and I have been conquering my bucket list this year too! Went to New Orleans and a Caribbean cruise in January, Quebec City in March, Las Vegas in July, Australia in August, and tomorrow I leave home (Vancouver) for Amsterdam and Belgium. I turn 60 in 2018, so more adventures ahead to celebrate that milestone! I too would love to go to Iceland, and I definitely recommend Pompeii. There are no words to describe how incredible it is!! Excellent! Venice is next on my bucket list having done Iceland and a cruise to the Norwegian Fjords in the spring both of which were awesome! We also had a week in Majorca in an old windmill in the summer but not sure what is going to be the highlight for next year! Just got to get a bit of energy back having completed 2nd line chemo a couple of weeks ago but hoping to go up to my friends in Birmingham to see the Christmas market and enjoy some retail therapy!! I don’t miss work at all but only had a couple of years to go anyway so reckon I have done my bit and whatever time I have left is going to be for my family and ‘ the list ‘ so go for it and enjoy!! Xx

It takes a while to get the Carpe Diem attitude - well it did for me, I was just too knocked sideways by the whole first year to care what I was doing - but once it kicks in it’s addictive! In the past year I’ve been to Japan with family, short trips to Madeira and Barcelona, been skiing, and then to Chicago and New York in the summer and 2 weeks ago like you we booked a short break in Spain 3 days before! I’ve felt sorry and regretful that I haven’t gone back to work (unfortunately i’ve had recurrences) but on the plus side this has left me free to enjoy spontaneous things!
I know that I am fortunate we can afford this as my husband is still working. We are probably not being as careful with money as we once were! But when it’s now or never it certainly focuses the prioirities!!

After reading all your reply's, I need to broaden my horizons. I 'll probably start with day trips since I'm just starting a new round of chemo and have lots of stomach issues. But if I'm 100 miles from home, most anything can be tolerated. And my best girlfriend is coming down from Vermont, so I'll have good company. Bucket list, here I come.
