I have had persistent pelvic and hip pain for the last 2 months. I have had 3 transvaginal and pelvic ultrasounds which were completely clear. Should I still be worried about ovarian cancer or would it have definitely been spotted by now? I also had a CA 125 level of 14.
Great to hear your CA125 and ultra sound tests are clear so hopefully you do not have OC but if you are still in pain my advice would be to go back to your gp for further investigation to determine what is causing the pain . You are right to listen to your body and need answers . Would be a good idea to ring the Ovacome helpline and ask their advice about what further tests you should request .

Just to add . My ovarian cancer showed up on the ultra sound scan but I have read posts on here by ladies who were not diagnosed until they had a CT scan so best to get further advice. Kim x
Hi Kim, thanks so much for your response. My doctor insists that there is no chance that several transvaginal scans conducted by multiple sonographers would have been able to miss a mass in a slim person. I am not sure if this is accurate and if I should push for further tests. It is possible I also have endometriosis as that does not usually show on an ultrasound. What were your Ovca symptoms?
I was diagnosed whilst on holiday in Mauritius so came as a complete shock. Had bloating and ascities which built up over 4 days and needed an urgent laporoscopy and 5 litres of fluid drained . They found the cancer and took biopsies which confirmed . Didn't think I had any symptoms before getting ill but In hind sight I did start needing to wee more frequently but didn't think it was anything serious and had a period of painful sex which I thought was due to my early menopause and vaginal dryness . Never had any persistent pain . Diagnosed stage 4 so had chemo surgery and more chemo and am now 9 months post chemo and NED ( no evidence of disease . My CA125 was 3880 when diagnosed and is now 9 so fingers crossed doing well 😀.
The helpline at Ovacome should be able to advise you if you should ask for further tests or a CT scan . Unfortunately diagnosis of OC is not straightforward that is why so many are diagnosed at late stage . The good news is that o c is quite rare so in the majority of cases the symptoms do not mean you have OC .

Well put. The only problem for me was that even my DOCTORS think OC is rare and they didn't bother to LOOK for it! Of course, there are better doctors out there than the ones that misdiagnosed me.
Andjelamm, FYI, I went to many different doctors including TV ultrasound, external abdominal US, bladder exam with camera, colonoscopy and endoscopy none of which detects Epithelial (most common type) Ovarian Cancer! Get a CT or PET scan. During all the visits I made to a urologist, GP, Gastro and general oncologist non of these incompetents bothered to order a CT scan. By the time my OC was diagnosed in the ER (US) I had Stage 3C OC. The stellar gyno-onc surgeon who saved my life said that I "had this for YEARS". So, do whatever it takes to get answers for your symptoms and be forewarned that if docs are only looking INSIDE your organs it's possible to find NOTHING, even though a woman could have advanced cancer.
Andjela, MRI is a detailed scan of structure and tissue. It can show details other scans cannot. There are no known side effects from MRI. So, combined with other tools available to search or rule out this cancer, I think it's a good step to take.
My cancer was not found with my transvaginal ultrasound or X-rays. It took a CT san.
