The mountain lion is closing in again!

Good morning ladies - I’ve just read this week’s posts and am marvelling at the positivity that abounds in this community.

I’m seeing my consultant today because my CA125 is continuing to rise - I was NED in February and have had 14 of 18 Avastin, but started to feel that all was not well at the start of September. I had a scan three weeks ago which showed no change from February, but am being more closely monitored.

I suppose I’m just feeling a bit fed up as I had managed to convince myself that I was beating the beast. I had a long chat with my CNS yesterday who reminded me that there are more treatment options, so hopefully even if I have to have more chemo I can keep going. Ok, unburdened now!

On a cheerier note, my eldest daughter ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise money for Cancer Research - so far she has raised over £800! She has her own reasons for challenging herself to run long distances, so to say I am proud of her is an understatement!

I hope everyone is feeling as well as they can. Even though I can’t see you and I don’t know you, the fact that your support is there is invaluable. Thank you.

With love, Ali x

Hi Alifit,

Great news on your daughter, what an achievement. Your appointment does sound daunting, it's so challenging isn't it being at the mercy of these blood counts. Hoping your consultant is reassuring and has a good plan, sending positive vibes

Good luck today with the oncologist, it’s good the scan shows no change from February and we know that the CA125 can rise for other reasons other than our disease. You CNS sound really good and is obviously a really good ally to have in this. Do let us know how your meeting today goes.

Your daughter is a total star, well done to her, what an awesome cause too.

Take care, sending big hugs of encouragement and lots of love ❤️Xx Jane

Good luck for today. It's a combination of scans, CA-125 and your symptoms which will decide the next steps. As your CNS said, there are many more treatment options.

Well done to your daughter. Amazing achievement.

My CA125 is bouncing about up and down, feel like I'm on a roller coaster lol. So totally understand how you feel, my scan was unchanged last time but I think that little number gives us such a hard time. It could just come down on it's own, mine did last year. On Monday my CNS told me a benign lump can cause the marker to rise. It can be in the thousands and still not be progressive disease but inflammation on the sites that exist.

Chin up it may be nothing

Thank you all, such brilliant support and encouragement. I’ll keep you posted.

To balance it out I’ve just spent an hour with my nearly three year old grandson - what a joy these small people are!!

Love to you all, Ali x

Update!

I’ve just seen the consultant - she’s happy for me to continue on Avastin as, although my CA125 is now 207, there are no other symptoms. I’ve got another scan booked for November to see if there is any progress. I also learned that although I was told I was NED in February, there were still a scattering of disease which has never gone away! Of course I may have been told and forgotten or misunderstood in the first place! I blame chemo brain!

Anyway, no time to lose so I’m looking forward to dancing tonight, my riding lesson tomorrow, tea with the girls on Friday and a weekend with all the family including four lovely grandchildren - it’s no wonder I’m tired!

Thanks again for your help today everyone, I can’t tell you how much it helps. Ali x
