I'm Alix, 40 and living in the north east of England.

Finally plucked up the courage to see my gp yesterday about my worrying symptoms (no appetite, tummy pain, weight gain, exhaustion, bloating and needing to wee all the time) and was referred for urgent blood tests (done that afternoon) and an ultrasound (scheduled for Monday).

Wondering if it's too soon to ring and ask about the blood test results.

Can't remember what my gp said about them, I was just so relieved I was being listened to.

X

Hi Alix, it makes a big difference when you are being listened to. My symptoms were similar to yours & went on for 5 years before I was listened to. It doesn't mean you have ovarian cancer because the symptoms are like so many other illnesses like IBS.

Did your GP mentioned which blood test he has done for you? It might be an idea to ask if it was a ca 125. My old surgery didn't even know what a ca 125 was. I am now at a surgery that are more with it.

Let's hope all is ok & you don't have this horrid illness. Now they are listening make sure you are completely happy with your diagnose if not go back. Keep us up dated even if you don't have anything t bad going on. Take care Cindyxx

Cindy, thanks so much for your response. You're right, being listened to makes a massive difference.

My gp ordered blood tests for everything including cancer markers because that's what I'm most concerned about.

I just wish I'd asked what to do about getting the results.

I remember him telling me to contact him once the scan results are sent to me but I'm not sure if I should ring and ask about the blood before then or wait for him to contact me.

I would ring the surgery and just ask if the results are back yet.

Hi Alixs., give it a week or so then call to see if your results are back. Then when they are in make appointment to your GP, I would take someone with you just to put your mind at rest.

Good luck take care Cindyxx

Hi Alix,

Welcome to our group. You've done the right thing seeing your GP and it sounds like they are on it. The blood test alone may not diagnose anything, but hopefully with the ultrasound scan you will know more. Lots of other conditions cause the symptoms you have, so keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Hi Alex you're really welcome to the gang nobody wants to be part of, I hope you're only passing through and don't need to stay with us because of our cancer.

You've done exactly the right thing and it's really good your GP has been so proactive. I'd give it about a week for the results, having said that my GP did mine and said it could be up to a week for the results but I got a call from him a couple of days later as there were really worrying results there so hopefully your GP will do the same if there are any contraindications in yours.

I truly hope there isn't anything there to worry about but if there is at least you're already being looked after and we'll all be here for you to offer support, listen and help as much as we can.

Let us know once you've got your results and try not to worry too much in the interim. Take care and be as well as you can be ❤️Xx Jane

Having been mis diagnosed in the past I would go and see the GP for the results...and ask exactly what they mean...if you feel you are not beong taken seriously ask or rather demand(!) a referral to a gynaecologist. Good luck Chris x

Thank you so so much ladies.

I hope I'm just passing through too but it means the world to know you're all there and understand how I'm feeling and offering advice.

Those who know me keep telling me what it "could be", I can't stop thinking about what it "COULD BE".

Thanks again so much for your support.

Hi Alis- My blood work was done the same day so I had the results. The ultrasound took three days to get back. At least you are on road to see which way you are to go. Keep us posted.

Hey everyone.

Just got back from having my ultrasound done. Had to have the internal one too because he couldn't get a clear look at both ovaries.

Said he couldn't see anything but he did say some stuff for the nurse to note down.

Told me to see my Gp once the blood results are back.

So now I wait.

Think I'll ring the GP to see if they've got my bloods back yet.

Hey everyone.

My gp rang this evening to talk over my results.

Everything looks fine with the ovary they could see but ive got a lot of fibroids and the bloodwork shows my cancer markers are high.

Because of this and because they couldnt see my right ovary hes referred me for a ,2 week cancer check appt with gynaecology.

He was sending the referral then but wanted to speak to me first.

Not sure if i should be worried or not.

Anyone else hear of this 2 week thing?

Hope youre all well

You and your GP have been really on the ball about all this.

The two week thing is standard protocol for any possibility of cancer. Much better to get on with finding out what's going on for appropriate action.

From what you say, there are two reasons for this: your markers and the limitations of what they could see of the right ovary.

However, and keep this thought, the referral doesn't mean that it IS cancer. Markers can be raised for other reasons.

Keep us posted and hoping for the very best. xx

This is exactly what they did to me. Waiting in a pain in the @&$ when you don't know what is wrong. My markers were also high and they could see the tumor on my ovary also right side but now after a month of worry I'm cancer free and getting over the hysterectomy. Now just praying it doesn't try and come back anywhere else.

Hey everyone. Sorry ive not been around much, had a hectic weekend with my family and managed to try and put my health worries to the back of my mind for a while. Hope youre all doing well.

Ive got my gynae appointment this week (Thursday) and am starting to feel anxious about it.

Im not sure what to expect, maybe another ultrasound to look for my right ovary. The only info ive been given is that i need to take a urine sample with me.

Ive not asked anyone to go with me. Wondering if maybe i should.

Thursday seems a long way away.

Having someone with you is a good idea. I tried to keep my mind off of it as much as possible but then took my mom with me to appointments in case I was too upset to understand what I needed to do
