I woke up from my surgery with an unexpected iliostomy. I was allocated a stoma nurse who showed me how to do everything before I left the hospital and then she visited me at home a few times. Initially I had very sore skin but, once I had the right equipment, it all settled down. It is a little uncomfortable but dooable. It is meant to be temporary but wonder if I will ever be referred for reversal. Hopefully you will not need one - they have to warn you about it just in case. Wishing you good luck, Wendy
