Anyone changed their District Nurse?

I'm considering whether to ask to see a different nurse. She's told me, if I take 5mls oramorph and it hasn't worked in 5 minutes, tale more. But it seems to take about 30 mins to start and 60 for all the pain to go. She also told me I couldn't od on oramorph but I can't believe that's true. I found a US site that says death can be prevented by artificial respiration though that may be different dosages. One problem is, my partner thinks she's ok. 2nd, she the mother of the guy next door.

Hi Lesley, go with your gut feeling if you don't trust her enough to give the correct advice seek another nurse that will. The fact she happens to be related to someone living next door to you doesn't make her know her job any better.

The advice you need is very important to well being having doctors & nurses that know their stuff is just important. Good luck keep us up dated. Take care Cindyxx

I think the fact you know her socially is a good reason to change....you may need to share very sensitive information with your nurse and therefore it would feel inappropriate if you also see her putting the bins out...? Go with your gut xx

Hi Lyndy, you are so right. It puts a smile on my face to imagine her out in the back garden with her slippers on putting out the bins. Then waving over at her next door neighbour just to close for comfort. Take care Cindyxx

You can ask for a different nurse and I don't believe you need to give a reason but the fact that you know your current nurse or her family socially could possibly be a conflict of interest? She may possibly be a cancer specialist nurse but if you don't think the advice she's giving you is right for you then ask for a change. Hope you get some peace with this ❤️xx Jane

some people react to medication...and different medications....differently. I react to chemo after everyone else!. However, 30 mins does seem a long time. As others have said...trust your instinct! Chris xx

A nurse I know very well told me morphine has no upper prescribing limits this was confirmed at the hospice last week. The doc told me to wait ten mins for relief it that doesn't happen then to increase by 2.5 ml. As it happens the oramorph made me so sick I can't face it again. However if you are not happy you should change. Confidence in your team is crucial

Hi Lesley,I didn't find Oramorph any good plus it caused an acid response in tummy so I was put on Oxynorm, which is stronger than Oramorph.Thank goodness I've only needed it once or twice as I'm doing well at the moment.I am under the care of the Hospice and find them invaluable as my hubby can ring them up Day or night if I have a pain that doesn't respond to pain relief,it's a total blessing for him as the worry is taken away from him.Do change your nurse ,the old saying "familiarity breeds contempt " is a good one.

Thanks for all the support and the recommendation to go with my instincts. I asked to see someone different. It was palliative nurse not district. I feel much more relaxed about it now and my GP popped in today, so I'm ok now if only my bowels would get moving but I've got meds for that.
