Hi everyone, you are all going to think I am a bit slow (!!!) but I have only recently realised that there is another forum - Share - under the Health Unlocked banner. What is the difference between Share and Overcome and why the two?

Hi jenny, I don't know why there are two but I was invited to join the 'share' forum so did. Some people only post on share so worth being there too. Hope you're well ❤xx Jane

I think Share has a US focus but anyone can post in each

Forgot to say SHARE is quite new and I had a thank you message when I responded there early on. I do sometimes say a particular response etc is on the My OvaCome if there hasn't been a response but have noticed the participation getting stronger which is good.

Hi Clare

I notice on the Share site they are very sensitive about posts being members only , certainly if you start a thread. Many will not respond in discussion is shared with everyone. People are often advised to change it to members only

Ah interesting. I do try and make my posts members only but sometimes when you're posting and in pain etc it's easily missed.

Good to note

Hi Fay, it's worth noting that if you don't make a post 'members only' it and all the responses that follow can be searched for & read through a Google-type search.... We have similarly encouraged people to do this and there will be members who choose to restrict replies (& especially the amount of personal detail) if it is not selected.... Sx

Things that make you go hmm. 🤔 There is a third called Ovacare. I have been curious why three, but I poke into the other two as well.

Thanks for asking.

Hi

I think Ovacare is the Irish version of Ovacome but you can post in any

Hi Anne, Ovacare is here in Ireland and is a separate Community although we post on both. Ovacare has an online forum and also organises Patient Information Days here either in Dublin or Cork, Ovacare is linked to Ovacome as far as I know, I hope this explanation helps

Thanks- I knew there must be some explanation. Although I am in U.S. I am so thankful for my English friends here. You are all rubbing off. I've recommended peppermint tea to a friend and am close to using the word pants in my every day language. 🤗

My Ovacome is mainly UK, Ovacare is mainly Ireland and Share is mainly USA., but there's no restrictions on any of the groups so lots of other nationalities mix in too. A lot of people are members of all three, but I love you guys the best ❤️

Like Spencer, I quite like all of you here on Ovacome and feel comfortable and welcome by all of you. I live in the US but my ancestry is English/Irish so that's probably why. Actually, it's because you are all so kind. I have not been over to the Share site so cannot say anything about it, but your English gentleness and sweet support and offers of tea is craved after a day of dealing with Americans.. 😁

I'm in Canada. We have national health care as the UK does, my drugs and protocols sound the same as yours, my peeps came from England and Scotland, and we all relish a good cuppa. So I feel right at home on this forum.

There is also AskEve, a U.K. Moderated Forum for the five Gyny cancers which of course includes OVCA... Ovacome and The Eve Appeal are both well established UK based charities. Ovacare, I think is similarly but based in Ireland. You can access each of the charities' websites and further information by going to their HU profile.

The model used on HealthUnlocked was that each small community/forum is moderated by a specialist charity/project etc and they do I think pay for this. As it's grown over the years, there are a lot more communities with some overlaps...

'Share' is an American organisation providing support etc for breast and ovarian cancer. Initially a Breast cancer organisation, it has expanded. They also have separate HU forums for breast cancer and metastatic breast cancer.

When I was first diagnosed, I also found the large US 'Inspire' site a useful source of information for Ovarian Cancer though personally found its size a bit overwhelming.

In the UK there are two other major OVCA charities; Target Ovarian Cancer and Ovarian Cancer Action. I would definitely recommend looking at each charities' website for more information and to see how much they all do.

Additionally, there is a great closed Facebook group called Ovarian Cancer UK (which many of us here are also members of), it is completely Independant, self-moderated and run...

Thre are some differences in different countries' health systems etc though of course the personal impact and experience crosses borders. The different forums can also have a slightly different 'voice' or style as well as the 'functionality' and posting guidelines so I expect some will appeal differently

Sx
