Taxol stopped after second dose

Just had taxel stopped after second dose leaving four solo carboplatin to go.

Did I lose my hair for nothing or will just two doses make a difference!?

Why did they stop it? Did you have a bad reaction to the taxol?

I had signs of neuropathy. Treatment no.3 was delayed for a week to see if numbness in fingers disappeared. It had improved over the last couple of weeks and was very very faint. Consultant said it needed to go 100% and that risk of permanent neuropathy with further treatment outweighed benefits of continuing with taxol treatment

Hi Carole,

I was swapped from Taxol to Docetaxel due to an anaphylactic reaction - might you be able to swap to something else? Also, if it's not an option, carbo on its own is still meant to be a very effective drug, so try not to worry.

I had 2 carboplatin on there own. My onc says the carbo does the majority of the work so I don't think it's anything to worry about not having the taxol. Hope the rest of your chemo goes well and you don't have too many side effects. Big hugs. Xx

I too had a neuropathy reaction to Taxol after session 1 so the dose was reduced by 20% for session 2. Another reaction after that so reduced again for session 3 & 4 then stopped after yet another (rash) reaction so last two were Carbo only. The main one for initial treatment is usually Carbo however Taxol is added as a top up which adds only about 5%. Neuropathy is an awful side effect and can be permanent so it's good that Oncologists are on the ball.

Unfortunately no one can predict how we will react so Most of us start off with the standard treatment.

Hi Carole

I was disappointed that I wasnt offered taxol for my second line treatment since I had a long NED before recurrence. In fact I am still arguing the point !

They did say though that even though neuropathy may fade for first line it may be permanent second time round. Perhaps the thinking has changed in the 5 years since I was first treated . Will only know after Christmas if Carbo only has worked as my scan will be done them. I'm no oncologist but I would think you will have had the benefit of the few taxols you had. Very best wishes .
