Reading all the post are helping me I was just told 2 weeks ago oc stage 3a2 start taxol /carbo wed 26 so scared

Don't be scared, it's not that bad and dosnt hurt. The staff that look after you are wonderful and I always found it interesting talking to the other patients that were there having treatment .

Yes I finished chemo 6 weeks ago, I was going for weekly chemo. just go every 3 weeks now for Beva ( maintainence drug) im in Leeds area. Good luck you'll be fine xx

I was so scared, when I first went from chemo. Then I got my head around this is what is doing the fighting for me. I also meet a lot of lovely people., for the last few session I insisted I went by myself . Good luck with your treatment.

Of course you are nervous ricky we all are especially starting out. You will find the nurses will be kind and helpful, Think of the treatment as going into your veins to fight your illness and that does help a bit. There may be side effects but you will be given steroids and anti nausea tabs to help with this. We are always here to give you some hints for those awkward days

Hi Ricky 23, l cried my eyes out when l went for my first chemo, l think it's only natural to be scared. You will get into the routine. I'm not going to say it was easy but there are so many ways to avoid any pain, nausea etc.. just don't be afraid to seek help as the nurses know so much and will advise you about almost anything! Remember every treatment you do is one step closer to you being on the mend. The very best of luck Ricky23! 😘

Thank you. It's the 2nd line. First one was awful I got a blood clot and then had breakdown. So they stopped. So this is 2nd go going to give it my all.... NO choice !! X

Hello Friscok,

I am finished Chemo 6 months now, finished at the end of March. Its not an easy road but its very doable. In actual fact the day of Chemo can be a very nice day the staff in the Chemo units are generally very caring and you can relax for the day even if it involves a needle in your arm! I saw each session as an opportunity to relax and talk to some people who knew exactly what I was going through.

The few days/week after can be hard and you do get very tired. They generally give you anti sickness medication which helps with the nausea, I was lucky as I didn't have nausea at all really. My one tip that I give to everyone is drink loads of water, Chemo can be very hard on your digestive system and the water helps a lot with that. Talk to the nurses on the chemo ward about how you are feeling as they will generally have solutions to most things from their knowledge and indeed experience.

As I said its not easy but I found that it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be so don't be too scared and take one day at a time and you will be finished before you know it!

Sending hugs to you..it's so much to take in all at once!

The best tips I got were probably about drinking water, taking all the pills exactly as instructed and taking stuff to do and to eat while you are having your chemo- it's a long day!

Afterwards, make sure you have a laxative like Movicol ready at home and if you do experience any untoward symptoms ring your team.. they would rather you did that than leave something that then develops into an infection.

Everyone reacts differently .. I ate like a horse throughout chemo!

Think it's scary beforehand because you don't know what to expect. Once you have one under your belt you will wonder what all the fuss was all about. For me it was not as bad as I expected once the cannula is in (which hurts a bit) it's fine... Do take a few snacks and a magazine I could not concentrate on my book for some reason .... Chatting dies pass the time because it is a long day.. Side affects are numerous but you may not get any ... The ones you do get can be managed like anti sickness and pain management for random joint pain.... Try not to worry and think about nice things to do on your well days that helped me with something to look forward too... If you need any advice the wonderful ladies on here are so supportive... I finished chemo in May and would echo what everyone else has said, particularly Lyndall's reply.

Tell your team about any side effects-they can help.

Suggest you have your hair cut short now, it's less of a shock and less messy when it starts to go. Get your wig and chemo hats organised too! Suburbanturban have some lovely ones and there's lots on ebay.

I made a lot of mine-kept me occupied when suffering from 'chemo brain'

Keep posting and let us know how you get on. Lots of us have been through it and we will always be here for you.

Good luck. I was a wreck chemo day, I'm not good with needles but it was fine. Take plenty of things to do, and drink plenty to flush your kidneys. The advantage is everyone there is feeling the same and you can have some very interesting conversations. I buddied up with the tea lady, recommended!

HI Friscok, welcome to the site. I am sorry you have to start treatment but dont take to heart all the side effects you may get because you wont get them all. The nurses will be kind to give you steroids and anti sickness meds before treatment and to take afterwards at home. It is daunting I admit but you will find it doable. We here will give you hints on coping with side effects as in what worked for us so dont feel alone. There is an answer to every problem and all the side effects listed on your information sheets are possible side effects and not probable. There are fab ladies on here who will help you with any problems you want to share, there is also an Ovacome Nurse you can ring. Dont be afraid to ask questions at your Oncology Unit, the nurses will help you and will explain what they are doing. All the best with the treatment and we are here for you
